A bit of engine therapy today I have had an old Imp 875 I4 later type engine stuck down the side of the house for some considerable time - over the Easter weekend I had cleared a load of rubbish from the side of the house and this was still sitting there when I finished wrapped up in a tarp even though it was seized when I picked it up. The late model Imp engines have an air drain from the head and utilise the Imp Sport cam and carrier which are always in reasonable demand. I opened up the cam cover and the cam and carrier were in very good order but #1 inlet valve was stuck open and when I removed the plug from #1 it was a bit rusty on the electrode.... I popped the rattle gun on the head bolts and two snapped off - as expected #1 has some water damage but it's not too bad and would have been a good engine if at some point it had not been left out in the rain. 1,2,3 are all A grade 4 is a B and 2,3,4 all have really good bores. The snapped bolt at the back of the engine gave in quite easily But the one at the front put up a fight but lost in the end. Well I guess it was more of a draw as it beat up the thread on the way out and will need to be helicoiled. Good bores - 3 are the same as this and #1 As I have a couple of 998's and a decent Sport engine I may well just part it out but also tempted to keep stripping it down and run a hone down number 1 to see if can be cleaned up before dropping out of specification - especially seeing as there is no wear ridge at all on the engine. will also have to see if I have any other grades of piston kicking about. There is another old 875 in the G15 at the moment so will have a look at the grades on that engine as it will be just scrapped when the 998 goes in.

Nice to see someone else up to their armpits with a certain model / marque - I thought the disease was fairly unique to myself and the amount of 'Jowett's' that I have in the pipeline / ownership - but no you are clearly suffering from the same disease just the 'Ginetta' strain of it - the good news is that it's completely incurable As young Mr Darkspeed will testify, you are most definitely not an isolated case. Sadly, because Dutton's are cheaper they are more plentiful and it's easier to acquire more of them... My current count has gone into double digits, I need help

Double figures in Duttons! Rebuilda - I may have got up to 4 at one time, although I think one was just a chassis V5 and a few parts. I think I had 6 cars in all and 3 went back on the road S4 Pinto, S1 RV8, B+ RV8 - Good fun cars for all the faults, questionable quality and quirky aesthetics. I am actually trying to ween myself off of Ginetta - and I was doing quite well until the G21S turned up. I will probably be selling that on as I want to try and get the project count down to just three (of my own) so that there is an outside chance I will actually finish them in a reasonable time frame. The proposed result of the cull - Selling on the G15 - did not go down well with my lad so its currently looking like it will be 4 for a while at least. 3 or even 2 would be better! When I contemplate selling on BOY the G15 I do get asked why? It will be because I know that when finished I will just sell it on. Repeating myself here but I had what I consider to be one of the best G15 packages in PHX and I sold it. Although I do feel that the umbilical it not completely severed on that one as it returns quite regularly. With the G21S (never really wanted one) I am pretty sure it will not come anywhere near the G21M dynamically and will therefore ultimately disappoint. Even if I duplicated the work - which would not be right on a car with the significance of OCF - I don't think that a G21 is - me. By duplicating I do mean MX works + Turbo and LSD - Hmmmmmmmm - anyone want to swap their ordinary G21 project for my Holy Grail G21S as I have a plan Although I do think that the MX5 + Turbo + LSD package will be better in a certain Elva replica.

It will all be in the 'garage' thread as and when it's safe to tell the individual stories. Currently all on hold while I sort out spares for other owners in dire distress. (we ALL know how that works) I also have an NCF Diamond to do a car SOS with and the Transit which made it all possible. I'm waiting to have a nice wind free day so I can get the drone up safely to take a photo

Calm before the storm in regard to the G15's at the moment - huge work and updates due shortly so just prep going on at the moment. I have however picked a few little odds and ends with one being a lightweight flywheel for the 998. Been on a bit of a diet this one. All the work happening at the back. 4.2kg of it - which should make the 998 more bike like than some of the K conversions Also just agreed to give the G15 to my son for his 21st so when the G21S gets sold none of the cars on this thread will be mine! - Eeerrmm what the hell did I just buy that flywheel for !

Should have checked the 998 and/or the bills that came with it - already has a lightweight flywheel - oh well you can't have too many lightweight flywheels can you - LOL and I do have another 998 and an 875 Sport I could always do something with.

One of the 4 chassis' that will be beating a path to my door for some surgery over the next month and a bit. BOY - will be taking the place of the chassis above on my mates patio to get some glass fibre work done patching up the large hole I cut in the shell to put some bracing in. This hole. And then shortly after - this one After which the body will be mostly complete and ready for paint. The chassis will get a few more little modifications and tweaks as part of the works being carried out and then its just assembly which should pretty well be the case for all 4 cars, the differences being that some will be further along than others in certain area's, but all of the required structural and body repair works will have been completed. Oh plus the one in Coventry that I keep telling the old fart to pull his finger out with and build the bloody engine.

The patients have started to arrive at the Shropshire home of G15 chassis works. I needed a few extra G clamps so did the usual thing of checking the net and found some Eclipse and Record branded types for a reasonable price but thought I would take a trip into town to good old Charlies Record and Eclipse clamps cheaper than any I could find on the net and then to make things even better - BOGOF - yep BOGOF on the Record G clamps Sorted for G clamps - - although may well get a few more whilst the offer is on. We also have two large capacity engine stands to be converted into a body rolling jig And a lot of steel And as essentially a full bottle of gas and two new 5kg reels of wire - Sorted.

www.charlies.co.ukIt's a Marches thing - they sell just about everything - website is shockingly bad and sort of covers what they keep in the store. But really you have to visit and also need to look at the boxes on top of the selves as much as you do on what's out on display.

I hope that you have a metal cut off saw / power hacksaw otherwise you are going to be on bulk orders with the 'Weetabix' I do have a Makita chop saw but I tend to find that the thin cutting discs in the hand grinder or a nice new good quality blade in the hacksaw work best and cutting by hand gets the heart rate up and keeps the noise down. Weetbybix is for Poofs

Cut a bit of steel in preparation. - What they are and where they go will become apparent when the welding starts. I have also been in discussion with my lad about the extra works to be done to BOY and further chassis modifications and an upgrade are due for the side bars / semi space frame works. All four cars will be ending up with a very similar range of modifications, which reminds me I have some more parts to order.

The UVA is all over the place, and I imagine every one is different, are these like that or more like a production car?

How similar are the chassis? The UVA is all over the place, and I imagine every one is different, are these like that or more like a production car? You can read this or just skip to the short version below. The G15 was not what we would call a kit car these days - Lotus Elans were sold in the same Kit Form as G15s - available in Kit Form to avoid car tax - and an Elan would not usually be referred to as a kit car - Kit Form being so far finished you could be on the road over the weekend. The G21 was only ever a production car and was never available in Kit Form as VAT ended that loophole. Same with the G32 and G33 only finished Type approved cars. Ginetta got the Kit Car badge from the G26 series of cars and the G27 race cars that were also offered as a kit. But they produced mainly what would be considered finished low volume sports cars. The G15 was a low production sport cars- with around 700 made in a 3 years period But to answer your question The original chassis was jig built and they are all very much the same. There were a few small changes through production but no-where near as many changes as they made to the the body shell. The trouble with the chassis was that it was badly protected and was a rust trap. In the 80's when the original chassis' were rusted out beyond getting fixed with a patches there were new ones made and the quality of these "factory replacement" was very questionable, there were also "specialist" versions as well as what you would call home brews My own lads G15 chassis is an original that was repaired extensively by YKC - Yorkshire Kit Cars - and I have removed 90% of the work they did to get the chassis how I want. KBW is a 100% original rusted out factory chassis SLC I believe is a repaired factory replacement chassis from the 80's PHX was a repaired original chassis similar in condition to BOY. Chassis #13 - Is an original chassis with rebuild works by Malkin Motorsport and then further modified by me. The Orange G15 in these pages had a Cottage Classics / Ginetta Heritage Race chassis - not impressed by those at all - that I was asked to correct. The factory original chassis are the best ones to start a restoration with. Short version - As a low volume production car not really a kit car the original chassis was a production item and all pretty much identical. .
