Hello. Has anyone tried using a co2 fire extinguisher to weld with and if so does anyone roughly know how long a 5kg one would last. I have heard of a couple of ppl using these now.
Thanks in advance

Straight Co2 is not the best for a weld shielding gas you would be far better off using one of the specialist shielding gases from the likes of hobbyweld - I use their 'Ultra' shielding gas which is 83% Argon, 5% Co2 & 2% Oxygen - minimal spatter with strong clean welds - available from a wide range of suppliers.

As above - zero monthly payments you can hold on to the cylinder for a long as you need - you never own it but it starts to feel like it after a year!

Is it correct to say twenty litres is the largest of those?
Can you say how long they last?

Yeh. 20l is as big as they do. They will last a good while. Depends how much welding you do of course!
I get mine from SGS through motor spares direct. If they don't have the right bottle in, they will get it in within a day. The deposit on a 20l is much more sensible than hobbyweld as they don't have the integral regulator. It's probably best to just go with who's closest to you for getting refills somtimes tho.
And yes, you can use co2 but argon is better, depends how tight you are.

I used co2 for about 20 years. Last year I bit the bullit and paid my deposit and fee for a 20l argon mix. The weld quality is infinitely better, less splatter and strike up is brilliant where small tacks wouldn't take before

Thanks - I picked up an Oxford MIG a while back, need to get some gas in...
