The Lincoln Continental Mark III was used in the movies The French Connection and a highly modified version in The Car. It is said that the movie The Car was influenced by Steven Spielberg's movie Duel. Which featured a Plymouth Valiant and a Peterbilt 281.

Which is also known as the De Tomaso Biguá, and De Tomaso have their own Mangusta which has possibly the coolest rear engine hatch ever.

wikipedia says that mangusta is the italian word for mongoose, an animal according to urban legend being able to defeat a cobra in paw to jaw combat. its also rumoured that de tomaso named the car as a two finger salute to caroll shelby. which is neat segue into one of my favourite, and arguably one of the prettiest race cars of all time, the cobra daytona....

Daytona? Here's a special grocery getter, a Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona shooting brake. Built in G.B, by Panther Westwinds. Working to a design by Chinetti Jr. and freelance auto designer Gene Garfinkle, Panther Westwinds modified the Daytona into a striking shooting brake, which retained very little of the original exterior except the bonnet, doors and the windscreen pillars. Unlike traditional shooting brakes this Daytona estate avoided a traditional rear tailgate by having gullwing-style rear side windows for access to the cargo deck. The interior was also substantially new, with the instruments mounted centrally in an opulent, wood-trimmed dashboard. Even the cargo load floor featured wooden decking.

The Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona shooting brake was introduced in 1972. What would be the odds that the people at the GM styling dept. had a picture of it pinned to the wall when they penned this 1978 Trans Am Wagon...

Not the car but the person. Why yes that is James Garner in the picture who also drove this Baha Oldsmobile in the Baha 1000.

this car is related to the above oldsmobile cutlass by being based on the same GM A platform aswell as bearing a striking visual similarity. the chevelle SS is also my favourite of the late 60s/70s muscle cars, which is maybe the purest era of muscles cars in general right before being hit hard by the federal bat and 70s oil crisis's's (crisi ?)

Wanderer, Horch, Audi, and DKW merged in 1932 to form Auto Union. Wanderer and Horch were not resurrected after the war, the other 2 were. DKW lasted till the late '60s, Audi survives to this day. Out of those 2, DKW produced and inspired the largest number of interesting racecars because the 3 cylinder 2 stroke was an effective engine for the smaller racing classes. And because of the amazing talent Frank Costin was, here is the Costin DKW.

I love a DKW. They built some awesome cars, motorbikes etc. This bike is in my books a very very sexy bike that I would love to own. When the 1965 DKW Hummel 155 motorcycle was introduced to the public, the European motoring press dubbed it the "Tin Banana." Its appearance was indeed a radical departure from any contemporary bike’s.DKW, "Das Kleine Wunder" (the little wonder), began assembling powered cycles in 1919, and in 1932 became a partner in the Auto Union conglomerate. Most of DKW’s earlier units were built with engines of at least 98 ccs of displacement, but they were always two-stroke designs. In addition to the swoopy, avant-garde body work of the Hummel, the motorcycle set itself apart from the competition by having a three-speed gearbox. With only a 50-cc engine producing 4.2 horsepower, the 155 was able to cruise at 45 mph. 11669_dkw2This example is fitted with a conventional foot shifter, though a hand shifter was available as an option. The styling might have been a big hit in the U.S., but the Hummel was never exported. Being readily available across Europe was not enough to elicit strong demand, and it never sold in great numbers. (Text from “HowStuffWorks”)

Bumblebee you say? Here's a Daihatsu Bee.

The Daihatsu Bee was the first car in Japan with a horizontally opposed engine. The Tatra T97 also used a horizontally opposed engine:

this armoured car is related to the one above by having a horizontally opposed engine. in this case a Rollys Royce 6.6 litre, 6 cylinder, opposed piston, 2 stroke, supercharged, multifuel (runs on anything from paint stripper to engine oil), 240bhp@3750, 375lb.ft@2500rpm, and does all that while making the same noise as the birth of the universe
