Is the CD player fused?.....just sayin...
Now I have the bug for Alpinas!.....I had put together a sketch for Alpina (wannabe) stripes for my wagon...but in the end thought about the backlash I would get if I put them on....love the look of the graphics...nice and subtle, but we all know what they mean...

Aha, another E46er on here! I had a feeling you'd get this one. I did debate an Alpina over my M3 when I got mine; reading my thread, you may be glad you got an Alpina! I may well have to meet up for the samosa, or maybe a beer/coffee in the Cotswolds . It looks like a fairly decent buy in the pics!

Managed to secure a copy of the Autocar magazine from July 1999 featuring this report and my very car. Also sent a v888 request to the DVLA to back up that my car carried the B3 BMW number plate at some point.
Spent the weekend wafting about in the car - 20 - 23 mpg at the most....

Spent the weekend wafting about in the car - 20 - 23 mpg at the most.... E90s get about the same...well, maybe a little better if you drive them like an old...well, if you drive them kindly.... I average 25 but do try to make that happen...I get roughly 28 on the highway on long trips.....but once off the 3 lane, its not possible. JP

With the autobox that isn't too bad.
I've been driving my M3 as a bit of a mixture lately. I've been either enjoying the roads, albeit under 5,000rpm, or just pootling down the motorway. I'm averaging around 23MPG. Normally I do around that, maybe 2 MPG more with careful driving. On a run I will see 30MPG as long as I stay under 80MPH. On the way back from France I got 33MPG, but that's about the only tank I've ever seen that from.
I've not actually checked a full tank since the VANOS has been done but it will be interesting to see what effect it has.

Steering wheel got some attention today. When the car was new, somoene optioned Alpina stitching in green and blue on the steering wheel. Looking at the options list, this meant that he/she couldnt have a heated steering wheel - what shame. The blue and green stitching had gone dark over the years with the grime from hands. I used some biological washing poweder, made a paste with water and applied with a soft toothbrush. The colours came out really nice. I dried the wheel and few microfibre towels and applied Autoglym leather balm.

Power assisted steering pipes are leaking. Took the undertrays off with the help of my local garage (Watters car and commercial) and 0.5 litres of fluid poured out..... Contacted DickDastardly to see if he can help. Garage have quoted £350 inc vat to replace both high and low pressure hoses.

A few more pictures of the Alpina today..... Can you spot the adjustable front and rear suspension? It makes for a fantastic fast road car. The pilots view For the distingushed gentleman The car goes to have the PAS pipes replaced on Tuesday. The original BMW design had some weak clips. The new pipes will come with the updated design. I will update with pictures on Tuesday evening.

PAS Pipes replaced - Cost £344 all inclusive. No pictures I'm afraid, but the mechanic did find a snap-on ratchet, socket and extension arm in the under tray. Steering feels responsive and less heavy and hopefully i will have to spend less on PAS fluid!

Enjoyed the car for a single day and now upset.
On the way to work this morning, coming through the heavy Swindon morning commute traffic, the steering got really heavy all of a sudden. I also noticed small puffs of smoke from the side of the car.
The car is running very wide road legal Federal racing tyres, making the car very heavy to drive. The PAS fluid resovior is totally empty.
I called up the garage who replaced the PAS pipes, who tell me that the only part left is the PAS oil cooler.
Can anyone help me with the part needed?
I'm starting to get fed up and now have lost my storage for this car.

Try your local BMW Dealer, i used to use them for parts for both my E36 Alpinas as they are standard Bimmer items, my guess is it will be a 328 item.
When you sell the Car let me know!

Thanks Battenberg - One last push i think. I will ask the local garage to show me the troublesome part and then buy a replacement. Shooting in the dark just doesnt work. I took their word for it that the £350 PAS pipes were at fault and feel annoyed that after replacing them, i am still loosing fluid. You may have seen from my other threads that I am starting my own car storage business as i myself really need storage for my cars. Its taking longer than expected, so I might have to sell up to help fund my new business. I will give Retro Rides first refusal when coming to sell the car!

The new PAS pipes increased the pressure within the system and ended up blowing the PAS cooler! I gave the car back to the garage to investigate. Within a few hours, i recieved a call - the radiator is bulging! By the end of the week On a positive note, the chasis legs are really straight and no rot or rust has been found. How i left the car last week

Had an incident this weekend whilst repalcing the pads and discs on my wifes Audi a6. The O/S/F brake disc locating screw head rounded off. Justin at Watters car and commercial came to the rescue and i took the car up to him. Whilst there i saw my Alpina was slowly looking better..... Note Alpina's german freind in the back ground..... Still missing some bits.... One of the headlight washers doesnt work and having Xenon lights, this would be a MOT fail. Part is £89 from BMW.....Wiating for this and will then fit and collect the car this weekend. Air Con should be working!!! I cant wait to drive her again after a bloody good clean!!!

The bulging radiators quite common on the e46.
My m3 has leaking pas pipes I need to sort.
Looks a great car and unlikely to loose much value wise
