Following on from my thread on "Whats it worth" HEREI went to see the car last week. Made a holiday of it with my wife and children and stayed a night in Manchester, before venturing further north to Morecambe to see the car. Seller was great and i bought the car with the intention to drive back 'down south'. However, after insuring the car, i was unable to tax as the seller had removed his private plate the previous morning. I wasnt going to risk driving back past ANPR and police, so i had to leave my car there..... The car was deliverd to my home today. She feels very heavy, fast and well built. I will update this thread with my findings....

Been using this for a couple of days now. Wow, what a car. In traffic and around town, very graceful and smooth. On a country road when overtaking this car becomes a monster!
Got waves and cheers from a group of E46 enthusaiasts in Swindon yesterday, which made my day.
Wheel centres giving me a bit of a tough time at the moment. I can only get two of them onto the car and have managed to snap a key.

pistolpete - exactly this. The wheels have been refurbed and the paint is now too thick..... One side of the car looks ace, the other side not so ace without centre caps. Any ideas how to fix without refurbing the wheels again?

pistolpete - I don't think so. I had a local cobbler cut me a new key as I broke a key last night. Total cost of £4.95 and not the 200 Euros Alpina want. A big shout out to him at "The Cobblers shop" in Swindon. The wheels have been refurbished and the clear coat is now too thick. This means that the centre caps are really tight. I will see if i can remove some of the clear coat around the inner seal where the centre caps fit and attach the centre caps again.

You should be able to remove enough clear to allow the threads to run smoothly. sometimes you need scotchbrite, sometimes 1500 paper, sometimes you need to work your way down to 1500 paper...if you know what I mean.
think about taping off the area immediately around the threads you are trying to redefine...scratches on new rims suck.
I had my wheels done a few years ago now and they still look great! a quality refurb does wonders.
JP
PS...even my little wagon becomes banshee like when you ask it to get a move on....and I have no mods on an N52...I can only imagine what the Alpina is like a full song!

Thanks all. The caps don't screw in. They have a couple of hooks on them that hook into a recess on the wheel then the caps fits. It is locked into place with a key and lock built into the cap. Cap - Wheel - I will give the 1500 paper a go over the next day or so.

I will get them to fit!! I also found in the car a special tool to help get these on. I cant see why the grit paper and this tool wont get the centre caps on the car. Updates soon.

I bought a sanding disc, but am too afraid to use it on the wheels...
Spent this afternoon sorting out the CD 6 disc changer in the boot. It wouldnt work. I stripped it out and the power conenctor was broken. My daughter and I hardwired the power, ground and sense straight to the pcb, bypassing the connector and hey presto.
Even found a Kiss CD (the night club and not the licky band) from 2001 in there!
I will keep sorting the small issues day by day and perhaps brave the wheels by the weekend.

The centre caps are always tight on the o rings! If not they can rattle at low speeds. Sometimes with my B10 I can do it first time, sometimes a few attempts and a cup of tea are required.
The brass lock barrels where seized when I got it, of course, couldn't check the tyre pressures, so lots of patience and I think I used GT85 but any penetrating oil should do, and after lots of soaking, lots of jiggling and little movements they came free.
