My brother is emigrating to Vancouver with his family this week and so he's been offloading junk and stuff, including this...... A 1981 Vespa PX 125. I've not got a bike licence but will sort out a CBT very shortly so I can commute on it during the summer. It looks rough but mechanically is fine (for an old Italian). I've given it a once over with a new plug and cleaned the air filter etc. Managed to improve the starting process as a result. Of course I'm already thinking about modifying it but I think for now let's just make sure I can stay on the damn thing! Sorry Celica, I'll get around to you at some point....

Do like an old vespa, the crustier the better... The world of modifying is a large one, careful not to fall down the rabbit-hole SIP or PM Tuning are good places to start if you do want to take a peek though My Vespa experience was awful front brakes so I'd be looking at a front disc conversion to start, then a bit of 2 stroke tuning to set the rinkydinks free. Enjoy!

I've seen SIP mentioned already and that seemed a good start for an exhaust upgrade etc. I'll be sure to check out disc conversions too, I had wondered what was possible with brakes as let's be honest, they ain't good!

I used to have one when I was about 15 or 16. Loved the handlebar gear change thing during summer. Hated it in winter when my hands were to cold to change gears. This was a bit of a hit years ago....

I'm restoring one of these at the moment, check under the number plate. or don't...
I had no intention of restoring mine but a rust bubble under the tail light led me down a long path of total bare metal, total strip down etc. should be like new I a couple weeks though

But yes, it's a bit crusty there but not too bad, seems more like surface scratches. The whole bodywork needs a clean and all rusty parts treating really. I really want to ride it before I start tinkering though or else I'll never use it!

Good to see another Scooterist on here. My first was an 83’ PX would love to pick up another early one. As said potential is massive as are styles you could go for. Forget the lights and mirrors curse word tho lol

Just got back from a week in Granada, Spain. Whilst the wife was taking pictures of the pretty narrow streets and stuff, I was grabbing snaps of all the Vespas in their natural habitat! Lots of inspiration collected on colour schemes and whatnot - looking forward to getting this thing on the road now.

my tip is always walk on the side of the engine when pushing it. I concur. With a Vespa you need to be on the spare wheel side to balance the weight of the engine

4 years later and guess what?! I've not got it on the road..... Looking up though! I've got it booked for an MOT and a service with a local expert guy in a shed, for next week. So barring an endless list of things that need fixing, hopefully I'll be able to ride the damned thing this summer

My wife's Vespa started off with " just a little rust bubble" !! That’s how mine started too and ended up in to a full blown expensive resto. Mines up for sale if anyone wants a vespa!

I'm too scared to start a resto on mine - there's far too many rusty bits. I just want it mechanically sound for now!
