Thought I better start on a thread on my newly acquired SD1 Daily Driver/running project. It was on eBay a few weeks ago and sold, but the sale fell through and I was able to buy it this weekend!
We set off at 4.30am on Saturday to go to Gatwick on the train, collected the car and drove the 195 miles home completely without incident. A friend of mine runs an independent engineering company in Chesterfield, so he's going to inspect the car so we can get the logbook correctly changed to the right engine size this week.
The engine itself has had a lot of work, its a 4.2 stiff block, Omega pistons, real steel DW268 camshaft, Rhoads lifters, Bronze valve guides with double valve springs and larger inlet/exhaust valves. Its also had an uprated Hi-torque starter, lightened flywheel, uprated clutch and stronger gearbox. Tubular manifolds and a big bore stainless exhaust make it sound really well.
Suspension wise it's LOW. Possibly too low. It has uprated lower springs, Spax adjustable shocks and poly bushes pretty much everywhere, Jaguar front brakes up front feel lovely.
Unfortunately the bodywork isn't the greatest. Its solid enough but scruffy. I'm going to tidy it a little for now while keeping an eye out for some new panels and saving for paint.
There are 101 little jobs that need doing, tidying and cleaning trim etc...and that small steering wheel HAS to go.
I've rambled on enough...here are some pictures!
An early start..
We went from here,
Too here -
Had the BEST breakfast in Gatwick Airport -
Then collected the car -
My OH drove it back...think she likes it!
The first of many petrol stops!
And we're back!
And that's it. I've spent today tinkering and tidying, gave it a wash then burnt £30 of petrol around the Peak District. Immediate plans are tidy it up a little and enjoy it!
