Had been a regular on Scoobynet for years but by 2010 that place had gone to the dogs with the price of Impreza classics dropping into the wallet zone of the Max Power brigade! A mate had bought a VW T25 Club Joker and I'd been frequenting VZi and The Brickyard and enjoyed the retro-ness but not so much the clique! Think I googled retro cars forum and found this place and never looked back since (apart from Brickyard every now and then when I get a Westfalia Syncro itch)!

I was lurking for a while as I was following a couple of threads on Opel Momzas then in Feb 2006 I joined and introduced my own Monza.
I'd only been on marque specific message boards and PH up to that point - I had no interest in anything other than old Vauxhalls, Opels (plus a bstard child of GM and Lotus)
I still have a main interest in the above but I have a greater appreciation of many other cars now.

I've been here pretty much from the start too, one of the first few hundred members who mostly seemed To come from volkszone. I think I was singled out as I had a slammed Stacklight merc on Porsche rims at the time which was far more RR material than anywhere else.

Other forums were getting really quiet and there was little variety. The for sale section enticed me then the friendly nature shone through.
I posted an identical post on three or four forums and got the best reaction and most comments here so this is my go to forum now.

August 2007!
Jeesus!! I had just bought a hunter wagon off ebay because mk2 cortina wagons were too pricey, and chucked something like 'how to lower a hunter' into google, and a link to a build thread on here popped up
Recognised Seff from his profile pic of the oxford. Area 52, many different meets, tathauling the length of the country, and lots of silly shenanigans This place has taught me so much, and above all allowed me to make the best group of mates anyone could hope for.
Oh, and the hunter is still going, in nomad's caring hands!

Almost on the road: b11 sunny breadvan, e36 tds, 325i skidcar,
nearly there: ford f250 tathauler, suzuki alto, u11 bluey
not for a while: ford pop, 32 rails,
not in this lifetime: ruby, '29 hillman
''unfortanatly I'm quite old and scruffy and in need of some loving. my drive shaft needs a new boot....''

Looking at old cars on Google night (as you do) and I came across a thread about a customised Morris Oxford which turned out to belong to Seth.
8 1/2 years, seven gatherings and a load of cars later I'm still here and still staring in wonder! Made some good mates along the way too.

All lies I tell thee /\ The person I can blame is Jonny69 who suggested the good people of RR might like the 'Pimp my Riley' display I was involved in. This entailed a full install of bakelite radio, dial telephone, wooden sideboard (complete with clock and fruit bowl) and a b&w TV and vase of flowers in the boot. Also, lots of pink fur.

I was late to the party. #869.
I think I joined because I was getting too much stick on the local boy racer forums (this was in 2005 don't forget) for wanting to lower and bodykit my Skoda Estelle.
I did actually lower and bodykit it and fill it with subwoofers, but - thankfully - before I took any photos I stripped it bare again and it is (still!) waiting to be more tastefully reimagined.

I think I originally got pointed here by penski via the OcUK forums. I was building my red 105E Anglia at the time, which I’ve still got and use day to day. Can’t believe that was 12 years ago! I was quite into my hotrods back then. I remember there was a bit of unrest on the hotrodding forums at the time and quite a few of us who didn’t really fit into the scene ended up here instead. Seth I’d completely forgotten about that Riley. Good times!

I think that in a nutshell is why this forum is so good - it's a right old melting pot of disaffected petrol heads that can find a diverse home here.

I was recommended it on the PPC magazine forum in 2005/6 I think, it was a fairly established site by then I mainly used it for buying cheap old cars, as I was and still am more of classic car guy than a 'retro guy' but got into the whole community and learnt a few things met some great people, the rest is history..

There was a wee 'come look at this forum, we're nice' thing in an issue of Retro Cars, so I did, and you were.
Fourteen years on and I still value the friendships made from here.

I genuinely cannot remember WHY I joined but I do know why I have stayed.. Variety, coolness and most of all no back stabbing or keyboard warriors. So refreshing.
