Ironically, criticising someone for not being positive is obviously inherently negative, I'm not sure those who do it can see the hypocrisy? Erm... it is a reminder of the rules of the forum, that isn't how hypocrisy works. Hypocrisy would be benefiting from a rule that the forum has, and then complaining about it.

I don't get the 'i'm leaving.... ok LEAVING... right now......please notice me leaving' type of curse word that goes on all over the internet, it seems to me that these people feel a need to be missed...ok ok maybe i do get it, these people are lacking something in life and unfortunately don't have the social skills to get what they need from us, the larger public, maybe that's our fault? maybe we should be more tolerant of people? or not, I don't know, and it seems, as life and people become more transparent due to social media, I know less and less.... I liked elwoody, he had a some good points... and some bad ones, but don't we all? A recent discussion I was in had myself and @grumpynorthener somewhat at odds.... but that's ok , he couldn't see my point and I couldn't see his, or rather we were both not listening to each other properly. It happens, we can't all agree . . . what he said did make sense, but not in the situation I was talking about. The point is, we are all sometimes to quick to judge, and be vocal about it, I know we cant all get superpositive comments all the time, but just posting up 'i hate that it looks curse word ' is not helpful, the blue thing that is in the post that elwoody started his i'm leaving thread with to me looks a bit gash.... but to be fair, if i'd've built the damn thing from scratch, or near as, I would've been proud that i created something from nothing. People on here probably hate my cars, I never finish them, they always look a bit 'untidy' and I always sell them before the end because i get bored, that's just me it's what I do...desperately trying NOT to sell the HB at the moment as the wife is getting annoyed at my 'carswapping' but cant help hankering after a chevette or a kadett or something...... oohh lost my train of thought there sorry... nope..it's gone but still, I liked elwoody... It's a shame he felt the need to go...

I just don’t understand why you’d bother deleting yourself, surely it’s easier to just not come to the site. I’ve been a member on various forums for specific makes of cars, which I no longer own, so just don’t visit those forums any longer, but I have never deleted myself off any of them. It’s nice I’ve had a mention a few times in this thread though........ rattle can, you get it, you get it? 😂 That's what I thought, has an air of finality to me. An air of self importance.... Nailed it, as has lord13. There is a sense of attention seeking for sure and throwing your dummies out of the pram to get your way. It's how you build an army after all. But the truth is I went quiet on this forum a while ago. I was a long time lurker and then started posting my MGB up all the way back in 2006. It had quite a bit of attention and I felt that was what represented RR but I didn't expect my tired '89 Volvo 740 to get as much the next year, that was more for autoshite! Nor did I expect other cars of mine like the 944 Turbo etc. to be welcomed as early as I posted them back then! The broad church philosophy is something that has kept me here for ages. There was a phase where I wasn't keen on the content here a few years back. I however went away, and browsed the forum less! I also decided to inject bits of positivity back in. The rules I used to find a pain but to all intents and purposes they have worked in shaping this forum and accepting nature is what has made this forum so great! If you want an example on negativity you only have to go onto other various forums like VZi and Pistonheads. Both including the latter really can get vile at times with some sections being a right monster! For this reason I didn't actually put up the threads on either of my cars and ummed and ahhed about the M3! Yes it is pushing it, but then penski reminded me in a comment that similar stuff was on right when the forum began, whether it was not the intention or not! I was quite surprised at how it went! The latter is one reason I also stopped going to the Butty Run. If you exclude everything bar certain cars (in this case American) you really do limit your domain, where the gains can be only short term. For me forums are what you make them. This is the one forum I've stuck to posting on for a very long time besides a handful of smaller forums still, some where I don't even own the car for the marque! Keep the vibe going and keep things great. The forums only exhaust themselves if you let them . Onwards and upwards I say! Since that was a little negative but coming round to keeping things positive have a few shots: Rich's latest purchase:

Without going on long and boring..
I like retro rides because it has such an eclectic mix of cars- views on them, perspectives, aesthetics, eras etc and above all some great knowledge and work- they're much more worth noting then the things you think that aren't done so well.
Although its "retro" rides I don't think there's another forum that caters so well for so many different enthusiasts and brings them into one spot with very minimal arguing over what's "right" or "wrong"- I personally feel that is what a car enthusiast forum should be about tbh.
We all have our own views, opinions and likes/dislikes- I couldn't care less if I personally "like" something on here or not because it's easy for me to press back and not to read it, sometimes I'll read it just for light hearted comedic value tbh and it has no effect on anyone negatively. Either way it's irrelevant to the person doing/building THEIR CAR so why would I think or want to portray that my negative view is above theirs, especially when it's doing something they enjoy or even take pride in?
I think people get too personal about other peoples likes, lighten up and take it for what it is man.
There's far more cars on here that I like to read about than ones I don't, I've been tempted to write negative replies myself in the past about someone's car and it's absolutely pointless, I completely get the notion of what this forum stands for, the complete opposite of sites like "barry boys" and I think its a great move by the moderators to focus on what every car forum should be about- cars...
Forget cliques and negativity- move on if you don't agree with something and focus on what you do like with positive input.

You may have done but like most merely expressed what makes this place what it is and tightly knit too! As for the wheels SmokeEm they may be for sale potentially; he's debating changing them

I can’t see that it’s attention seeking to walk away without calling attention to it? He told me because we hd some trades going but really it was pretty low key, this thread should probably die.

I would have a little while back. But I'm in a hut in the middle of nowhere with only mobile and admin tools aren't particularly usable on mobile. I'll probably delete it when I get back to civilisation tomorrow.

Some very good, real, valid points have been raised in this thread about what the community is and how it should be.

IMO the greatest strength of Retro Rides is its sheer diversity. It is a very broad church indeed. This is surely why it maintains steady traffic even in these times of generally declining forum traffic in favour of face-ache.
As has already been said, if you can't find anything to interest you on here....... are you really a car person?!
I don't "get" everything that pops up on here. Occasionally something downright gives me the shudders. But if you have nothing constructive to say, keep quiet (what a great rule!), so I do - and it's much more than balanced by the projects and threads of outstanding interest and excellence.
Also, things posted on here have brought things before me I never knew existed and would not otherwise have found - every day is a school day. It's also humbling that people take the trouble to document their projects and experiences in such detail and share their knowledge, wanting nothing more than a bit of positive comment in return.
Long may it continue!
