I get people assuming the same - I have a Merc so I must have money! I'm actually so skint at the minute that I'm having to drive a Hyundai Pony! Never mind. There is a Haynes manual for the 350 and 450 Mercs - it covers both the W116 like yours and the W107 SL. It's an American manual which is better than the newer UK ones which show you where the fuse box is and not a lot else! You can order it online form www.haynes.co.uk. Should help you with the wiring diagrams! As for the value, it varies wildly depending on the condition (as you'd expect) - a snotter can be got for a few hundred quid but a pristine one can be upwards of £3 or £4k IMHO, and prices are going up all the time. The W116 was the only Mercedes ever to have been awarded European Car of the Year. Dropping it might not be that easy if you don't want to hack a coil or two off - I don't think anyone does lowering kits for them (although I might be wrong). The only kits I've ever found for older Benzies have been for the W107 SL and the W123. Depending on how much you want to spend you could go the Airbags / hydraulics route! ScrapingScrap is the lowered Benz daddy round here!

Ah, the 6.9! Fantastic engine. Was so massive they had to dry-sump it to get it in the engine bay!! So there's no hope for me getting one under the w115's lid (if I could get hold of a 6.9... ££££££!) I think 14mpg was claimed - for motorway driving! . Definitely not a car to drive to a Greenpeace rally in!! ;D

Hi Steve, great choice of cars. Splittie for the purists and the Merc for the twisted individuals (I reckon we all pretty much slip into the second pigeon hole!)
6.9 must have been mad in its day - it still is. I think I read about one in Evo, when they pressed the throttle nothing much happened apart from two long black lines coming from the rear tyres ;D
And Rmads Pchop is the way to go BLING!

Sorry...couldn't resist - I had a bit of a photoshop 1/2 hour! Now THAT is exceptionally cool! RMad: When I (eventually) get the 728 home, can you do the same to that.....for a little bit of inspiration! Oh, and I just found this: This Mutha Hubbard's the real deal. Check it out. 6.9!

Hi Stevie, welcome along A nice varied pair of vehicles you have there - and big respect for the work undertaken on the Splitty As for lowering the MB - air bags are cheaper than I thought, especially if you just want to adjust the car's height slowly (Citroen BX stylee)
