This all happened fast.
Tue I was contacted by the owner of the Irish Ford Escort Owners Club.
"Would you like a free 1996 escort?" he asked.
I said yes and he passed on the contact info.
"Go gently" he advised, it was her husbands car and he has died!
I rang the lady, Shirley, on Wednesday when she explained that they had sent the car for its annual test but it had failed.
So the car was given to a local garage for remedial work ahead of the re-test.
At this point her husband passed away.
So she continued to keep the tax paid after getting the car back but eventually realised that she didn't want to keep doing that.
Then the local travellers started calling offering her a pittance for it but she couldn't face the car being destroyed.
A chance conversation with a classic car owning friend put her on to the Escort Owners Club and hence to me.
So we arranged for me to collect it yesterday.
Me and son no.3 set off.

Inside the alarm buton looks good.
New battery ordered.
Plan currently is to just get it started, first.
If it drives nicely I'll look into getting a test on it.
Beyond that who knows. I might sell it or lower it a foot, who knows.
