Maybe its just me that thinks so but does anybody know why theres so many cool American cars on the continent, particularly in the netherlands? Just seems to be so many more over there than here?

Couple of reasons for the yank iron on the continent: 1/ US military prescence in the former West Germany - some huge bases there 2/ The continent is LHD, so maybe less impractical to own a large LHD import, especially considering tax on the old "motion lotion" has traditionally been lower the other side of the channel - who else remembers driving to france with mum & dad in the 80's and dad attempting to exit the ferry on the warning light and re-enter with a full tank? The most common US cars on the banger ovals now are probably Fleetwood & Town Car limos which I put down to the burgeoning "lambrini girls wanna go out to wetherspoons in the nearest market town in a large and distasteful vehicle" phenomenon! You hardly get any yank hearses over here whereas the continental banger lads seem to turn out a fair few - maybe they are/where popular as a direct import by continental coffin carriers?

Some rated stuff in those Banger yards, and i wouldnt say mk1's rarely get raced, ive seen a few this year (including a coupe!), but yes they're scarce, even mk2s are getting smaller in numbers, and Banger boys have moved on to bluebirds and primeras, cavs and mondeos etc.

The FWD bilge you mention, whilst popular in the smaller classes where it has replaced cortinas/capris, is no replacement for the grannies as all "Unlimited CC" meets (where the grannies are primarily raced) are RWD only from 2008 - the unlimiteds have gone very Sveeedish recently, but the big lexus models look to be good for the future.

True, although a Funeral Director reasonably local to me has at least one Aussie Ford Falcon hearse. It's lovely. ;D

This abandoned 4 years ago outside my place..! .I managed to find the owner last week ( on the run from a finance company ;D ) and it was mine for a grand. Not bad for a late model ( 2000) Merc and cost 30 grand when new.. But it hasn't got a cylinder head... :(OM 602 Diesel if any one knows of one. It's going to make an excellent parts picker-upper for my merc biz.

Many years ago I changed my driving style to cope with rising fuel prices; I have now reached the stage where I am contemplating keeping my eyes shut in order to lower wind resistance.

Kirbys in Rochford Essex. Blimey, Kirbys in Rochford I always used to go there for my bits in the 70's. I used to live in Princess Gardens then, the yard was at the bottom of the road. Old man Kirby was a very nice and fair bloke. Nice to see they're still keeping a space for the classics.

Saab 900 near me, been there ever since I can remember. Theres a VW Camper of some description behind it which has been there since Noah was a lad. Looks like there might be some other curse word in there too! The house is one of those that looks abandoned but isn't...

Does anybody know how much the continentals pay for their granadas to race? I remember you could get grannies for £20-£30 a pop here and you could choose a manual over an auto! Last time I looked grannes were going for £300 odd for a good solid one. "Banger" racing? not any more....

Really curse word photo, need a better lens really. Was out yesterday taking some proper pics of the S3 in readiness for selling and noticed these: Parked in a field. They were right across from a steading though, so couldn't really get closer. There is a little badge on the grille that says Toyota but they don't look like and Hilux/Landcruiser/whatever I've ever seen before! There was an old Datsun Patrol on the other side and a Herald 13/60 further up but I couldn't get a decent pic of that due to some modern rubbish being in front of it!

I looked the Saab up on the DVLA and its got rent til November or something so it might actually be in use prehaps the guy only comes out at night?

Racers will pay up to £200 in this country for cars to race, the decent racers will strip the cars down carefully & sell the bits on to keep road going versions alive, others just wreck them. Scrap is £120 a ton at the minute so once raced they can weigh them in & get their money back
