Harness bars added to the cage, finally finished playing with tubes. Need a new job then. Start panelling out the back with some aluminium sheet. Cage went in a little further back than first expected, so the bulkhead panel will need a half inch bump bashed into it. Cue hi spec tinwork tools.

Add hi spec jig to the tools and see if I can knock in a square corner. Seems to work. Much wire brushing follows to get a matt finish, which is an absolute finger print magnet. Will brush again once fitted.

This is absolute madness. I love it!
I would've never thought I'd heard the words 'A3', 'V8' and 'mit engine' in the same sentence.

Far from my comfort zone with this part of the build. Hopefully it will all work. We will see.

Great work...I don't envy your job with the electrics! Not my favourite. In theory though I don't need much of it, just enough to run engine and box. Finding the right ones is the trick!

Finding the right ones is the trick indeed...... there are MANY wires in an A8 - like an anaconda orgy under the dash.

Like an anaconda orgy under the dash. Nick Wirebird's nest used to be my favourite, but I think that's just been replaced

Seem to have lost the cooler pipes for the auto box. So what to do..... take a brave pill and get the tap and dies out. Went surprisingly well, AN-8 a perfect fit with no drilling needed. Next problem is it is stuck in gear. I don't know if it is pressure or mechanical. Also will only slightly start, maybe related or an immobilise prob.

Surprise update, it only actually runs !!!!!!!!!! Brute force cured the gearbox problem, which in turn cured the starter lockout problem. Immobiliser turned out to be a disconnected earth hidden in the rats nest of wires. I have thinned the loom in the spare car down to nearly nothing, so will copy it over to this one. It is quite amazing how much there is that you could easily live without. Two ECUs and 66 wires just for the front seats and adjustable steering column.

This is about as far as I dare go with the wire removing. Starts and revs OK, will have to wait to try the box under load but it does spin the shafts at the moment. I might have lost the tiptronic function as it doesnt show on the dash, but again it will have to wait for now. Next job Ithink will be put the engine in the car and think about moving all the wiring so it is back in the dash area. Not in the dash cos I havent made it yet!

Well done on getting it started! Always a real encouragement! Yes, was pleased to see it running again. Thought I had snipped too much off. Lost the dash display, was one wire. Starting then stopping, thought it was another immobiliser fault, but was getting worse so not electric I thought. Turned out to be short of petrol!

Late to see the build. Kudos to you for doing it tho. The wiring must be a right pain.
