Hi all.
I have a 1600 Auto mk3 Cortina and considering converting it to manual.
I already have a full 1300 xflow and 4 speed gearbox set up from my other Cortina.

Red cortina: Currently 1600 automatic
Blue cortina: It started out a 1300 xflow, and 4 speed manual, but has had a 2.0 zetec installed Now.
So I'm hoping to use much as I can from I took out of the blue car. But wondering
What other parts would I need for the conversion? Pedal box? Driveshaft?
Or are there any how to guides out there online?

Hi. Will you be swapping the engine that's in the auto, or keeping the engine and just swapping the autobox for a manual?
I had a RWD Nissan Auto and fitted a manual engine & box.
Pedal box + clutch hydraulics (maybe cut the wide auto brake pedal down to make a clutch pedal), - drill through bulkhead for clutch cable / cylinder. Propshaft. If gearboxes are the same length no need to change it, if different you need to fit prop from a manual Jumper the gearbox "park" inhibitor (or the car won't start)
If keeping the auto engine, you need : flywheel & clutch from a manual spigot bearing in the end of the crankshaft (auto engine won't have one)
Transmission tunnel? Autoboxes are normally larger so expect to have space to swap auto to manual, but not a manual to auto. Worth checking before you start just in case.

There are lots of guides out there - google it.
Unfortunately nothing from your manual car will fit, unless as Nomad says you're looking to transplant both engine and box together.

Cheers, I would want to keep the 1600 xflow that is in my car . Its a matching numbers low mileage car, and I'd prefer the 1.6 over the 1.3 anyway. Have spent a while googling and searched for guides on forums but haven't found any. I remember seeing a very detailed one for a mk2 escort a few years ago, but can't find it now. Apologies, for some reason I thought the 1.6 was a pinto and the 1.3 a crossflow - you should be able to use the gearbox, but while you’re there I would go for a 5 speed type 9 box upgrade to make the car more usable. There are most definitely guides out there for this.

Type 9 would amke it more useable alright butmy idea is to use the parts I already have here, and figured a conversion between an auto and manual crossflow set ups would be less work than usiing a type 9 from a newer pinto capri, sierra or granada. I might never do the conversion but has been something i've been considering.

Hi, I think you might find you may need to fit a manual flywheel and crank spigot bearing to your 1600 OHV engine. Also if going for a five speed you will need the correct size clutch plate with (if my memory serves me right) 23 splines for the input shaft. Make sure it is not a 2.8i one as they have a longer input shaft. I cant see why a manual pedal box wont fit straight in either. All already mentioned

I should have a flywheel and spigot from my manual car. Definitely sticking with the 4 speed manual box I have. Type 9s are very thin on the ground here and expensive. i have a 1600 pinto and type 9 5 speed in my sierra that id sell as I'm going v8 That'd be a nice upgrade for someone. Should sell fairly easily. I'll sticking with my 1600 crossflow though as its low mileage and original engine to the car and I've the majority of parts to convert
