If you keep it at Wide Open Throttle at all times, the incoming air should cool them... Edit. My guess is the biggest heat source will be the intake itself, and probably just after you switch the engine off. Maybe if you put phenolic spacers between the intake and the heads, and mount the Mandos on another piece phenolic, you may get away with it. I wouldn't make new ones out of metal, though. If vibration ( and/or presure pulses in the intake ) makes pieces break off, they could find their way into a port, and into the combustion chamber.

Yeah I figure (great pun) that these figures, if they melt and somehow a bit pops off will almost vapourise within the combustion chamber. Makes for a funny scenario - seeing some lego figures dripping out of the exhaust pipes. But yeah- biggest heat source will be when the engine is off and heat soak. I agree that the inlet should remain a bit cooler when running. Adding a phenolic spacer between the inlet floor and the little plate that they are attached to would be super easy. Or I could get a friend to 3d print some figures out of a high temp plastic. Darkspeed - I'm definitely wanting to keep them in there all the time - its not just for display. Without them who would pilot the spaceship?!

Brilliant idea and looks great but if they came adrift or a part came off it could hold a valve open, is it a "safe" engine?
Amazing fabrication and progress, really enjoy reading your updates

Without them who would pilot the spaceship?! And without them this would be just another Honda flat six powered imp in Newsland.

The thing i love about this place is that (amongst other engineering feats) Darkspeed has flow tested a plethora of original, aftermarket shimmed and non-shimmed water pumps to establish the best flowing pumps in an accurate and scientific manner, whilst yoeddynz has made a clear inlet cover with lego stick figures in to mirror a space ship for a bit of fun. All the cars (and bikes, sheds, etc) built by both are unquestionably brilliant, and thoroughly enjoyable (and educational) to read and follow, despite occasionally divergent approaches. Now how to incorporate a barbie doll into the grille of a Strato's i wonder...

A Goldwing powered Sprite without any Mandos inside the intake just doesn't seem complete, does it...

Definitely not complete. Who would control the engine?!!! Yeah that sprite was linked to me on oldschool forum. Neat car to swap one into (although I prefer non-bugeye midgets etc) The driveby video doesn't do the flat six sound any justice though. He's not fanging it enough for starters but I think the real problem is the fact it has side pipes so from one side you'll only ever hear the sound of a 3 cylinder engine! It just sounds a bit farty/fluffy to me. I'll definitely be fabricating twin exit exhausts, nearer or in the centre of the car, for both a nice sound and the look I like. Similar to this... or slightly spaced apart... It'll just come down to how I feel on the day I start placing tubes under the back

Actually I've changed my mind Do three out the centre That could be a plumbing nightmare, but you should be able to divide that 6 into 3 two into one's. By firing order...

My vote is spaced apart then you don't have to move the no. plate... If you pop back a couple of pages you'll see I've replaced the plate with a new smaller one, mounted in the proper place. It's much nicer looking!
