Long time no post – went to Japs for a while… Lets spark a debate folks…. This X Pack was owned by a Guy called Doc / Doc Octane depending on the forum – and he paid for the conversion about 05-07. It’s now on Ebay by another Dealer for…£15k! item no: 292109338283. Well he got into dodo for money and stuck it up for sale for over a year with no buyers – at £5k – so he then sold to a Dealer, my mate, who paid him what HE asked for - £4k within 3 hours of the call. He was over the moon - & could pay his rent. Then the Dog went straight to the forums that very night to tell everybody how screwed he got – crying like a baby – what a disgusting little person he must be. So many of the forum users on here at the time all started gossiping that nobody should buy it…really! Worse – they even send him some seriously abusive emails – to which he apparently responded to a few and asked to meet the Brave Souls in person – yet none appeared. Amazing response considering not 1 single other person would step up for their “good mate” and buy this motor! Anyway. The car was subsequently swapped with a guy in Ireland for the same value of £4k. He has kept it since and by look of pics he has done absolutely nothing to it other than maintenance. He has now sold to one of the most expensive dealers in the UK – StAndrews Autos – who now has it at the astronomical price of £15k! So when my mate was making a mere 25% markup of £1k less tax/repairs/vat etc this new fella is making about £6k! worse than that he is trying to push the value way way above what the car is worth as it’s again been up for sale for a while. So how many of you are going to sabotage this sale and this buyer now? Probably none! Yet someone will no doubt be prepared to pay the silly price and smile – shafted without the vaseline, and then pushing prices into the stratosphere as every other seller will think theirs is worth more. Something to think on. BTW – I drove the car for a weekend – it was a typical 1970’s old gutless Brit dog on the road with saggy ass seats – and that was with a recon motor – and I’m guessing it’s still the same now – so I’ll stick with my BG Peranha & XR6 – and my mate? He’s into Italian Exotica now – and you thought Brit cars were bad……

What is your point? You were going to "spark a debate", but you have no actual question, other than a screed of bitterness on behalf of a mate for some perceived slight from years ago. You seem to be very angry about something. Are you sure it is this exact thing? Maybe speak to someone a bit more professional than us. And for reference we generally have no problems with dealers, we have a bunch of them on here and sometimes we see cars that are sold in places we know come back on at higher prices, there is some grumbling but we all realise it is business, in fact we even tackled this subject in a podcast we did a few years ago. Also prices for cars have changed in the last ten years or so (which is when I believe this car was sold), particularly old Fords. It is worth what someone will pay for it. If anyone is interested here is the current sale : www.ebay.co.uk/itm/292109338283Thanks for point me at St Andrews Autos they have some interesting stock.

About 6 years ago I sold my fairly solid and freshly MOT'd Capri 2.8i for just over £2,000. Seems like a bargain price now but times have changed. ....and don't get me started on the 1968 Mini Cooper I swapped for a £600 rusty VW many years ago I was also impressed with St Andrew's stock but sadly the only one I could afford was the Smart Car!

Currently driving a '68 Karmann Ghia as my daily. Don't ask about previous cars - there have been way too many and I stopped counting at 160!

.and don't get me started on the 1968 Mini Cooper I swapped for a £600 rusty VW many years ago ha! I gave my pretty clean 1972 Bay window camper away, admittedly it was to my dad and he got it all fixed up nice and sold it on, so I don't resent the profit making Still ... would have been worth a pretty penny today. When I bought my Sunny I got it from datman , I don't think he put much on the price, but I'm sure I could have got it cheaper if I'd have been able to go to the house it was at, pick it up and check it over myself. That is a service worth paying for to me. I'm sure if I was ever to be in the market for a Ferrari I'd head to DK Engineering rather than taking a punt at Auction, I could end up buying the exact same car, but you would hope that having gone through a specialist with a reputation to maintain that it would have had a reasonable once over ... I guess this isn't always the case, but it is the hope.

This is the kind of post you think is a good idea on a Friday night after partaking in too many hydraulic sandwiches, and you wake on Saturday feeling like the Indians slept in your mouth and left their Teepees behind....😂😂😂

You say ‘let’s spark a debate’, it’s quite simple, your mate was skint, took what he could, someone else, wants more, so what! Oh, yeh & it’s a decade ago wtf are you on?

This thread brightened my day absolutely pointless but nonetheless... Supply and demand - I sold 10 Raleigh Choppers to pay my rent again around ten years ago, took 400 cos I needed the money yesterday. Now worth 4k - but my rent got paid. One of them things.

I had a Mk1 capri 3.0 which I virtually gave away probably 30 years ago.
It'd now be worth something in the region of £10K
My point? there isn't one, if I'd kept every car I'd ever owned I'd have lost money in parking fines since I don't have anywhere to put them......
How about starting a pointless thread?

I've never had to sell anything to pay for a house, but when I started my business I sold my E28 525e which I loved, my Estelle 120L5 which I loved, and all my three Minis, which I liked a bit. I got some money, I started up.
A couple of years ago a friend of mine that loves Capris and had had many of them, except a 3.0 S, said, I'd really like this 3.0S X-pack that's for sale locally. So I gave him many monies and the loan of my van & trailer and he went and bought it and now he's very, very happy.
My point? Not sure there is one. Capri related anecdote plus story of once selling some cars years ago that would be worth slightly more now.

I must have missed the thread on here but never mind. To get this right, Doc/Doc Octane got into debt up to his neck having an x-pack kit fitted to his Capri. To fend off the baliffs, he sold it cheap to your mate and then began to moan about the price paid. The users of this forum (which pretty much never has threads about this curse word) then decided that nobody should buy the car from your mate, sent him some abusive emails, but refused his offer of a meeting to clear the air? Strange. The expression of a desire to meet people you don't know who you feel have slighted you on the internet ends really well in 99% of cases I find. I love this forum because it's free of bitching, politics, and faux outrage. When things do get a bit silly (e.g. what's like a Pantera but not a Pantera) it is dealt with in good humour and doesn't get personal. I think we've all been around the block enough times to know that if you have a seller who is desperate for cash, and a buyer with cash who isn't desperate at all, the buyer will come out of it far happier. But enough of that, St Andrews has got some proper gear. I'd seen the Superspeed 'Tina before but I'd demolish the front wall of my house to make room for this: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1938-V12-Lincoln-Model-K-Convertible-Victoria-by-Brunn-Special-Car-with-Presence/292241550943?hash=item440af42e5f:g:VnQAAOSwEaBZ8JuQ
