Well, not a lot has happened really. I reassembled the painted steam engine.. I also ran it in the garden one evening at a BBQ. But that has to come apart again, more on that in a sec. Went on a short family holiday to Lowestoft, and while we were there we went on the Bure Valley narrow gauge railway. Few pics of that, as you do. 'Diesel' was actually powered by a Bedford 330Ci straight 6. Lovely stuff. Picked up some amusingly posed engineers while I was there. There are 4, again, more on that later. Invisible toilet/newspaper guy Dunking invisible biscuit in invisible tea guy Invisible tug of war guy Petting a large invisible dog guy We also visited the Miniature Worlds exhibit in Wroxham near the station, and this amusing novelty was spotted. But I scored this while we were there from a Facebook marketplace ad in Great Yarmouth. First RC loco. I wanted a diesel shunting engine for a while but I wasn't keen on the other Playmobil alternative Which shares the wheelbase of the steam engine but makes it look a little odd. I need to do some mods to the drivetrain electrics because it runs quite fast but there is a known 'fix' using a set of diodes which I will have a play around with and then paint it up to look good. Which brings me onto the steam engine again, I've decided to convert that to full battery RC, so batteries have been ordered so I can commence that soon. I realised I want to get the maximum running enjoyment from this without the hours of maintenance track power locos require so this is a sensible step. Hope to start thinking about laying the permanent way soon too.

Cobi is awesome... recently discovered them and the Boy is hooked! All very laudable, Legos "No military" stance but sometimes boys just wanna build tanks

I've finally started buying pairs of points so I can run more than one consist or train at once, and I wanted to have a bit of runtime with the freshly assembled steam engine so here is a short video.

Wow, That photo instantly took me right back to my childhood. Hope it makes the same " chuffing" sound the Ivor did.

The 4mm model (small one) has a DCC sound chip fitted and makes all the appropriate sounds.
I designed both kits and they are made from etched brass with some 3D printed detail parts.

Cripes. This got forgotten about somewhat. We moved house, I laid and re-laid lots of track. Due a relay now to be fair. I built a 2-4-0 from lots of PM parts. We did a video of running for Corwin's Youtube channel.. I also inherited Corwin's OO layout. It's a space saver shunting puzzle and It's got all electric points and auto-uncoupler locations so it's totally hands off operation, I'm waiting on him to fit my YEC Janus with RC for reliability. Photos in a random order. The holes in the tarmac are now repaired. But recently, I've not used the garden railway mainly as it's a more social affair, BBQ out, beers chilled kind of thing and we know that hasn't happened for a while. Hence wanting a re design of the track plan. I've been given the go-ahead to remove the ridiculous dead-looking honeysuckle and the tree that is actually a hugely overgrown shrub to free room for trackwork before I commit to some scenic planting. Another thing that's caught my eye is not-narrow gauge locos. The Playmobil stuff is essentially narrow gauge and I want to have the option to run something more realistic, to my eye anyway, so when I spotted this for a very handsome price on a Garden rail group I jumped at it. Lovely. It's a 3D printed GWR 57xx Pannier, mounted on a Bachmann Thomas chassis (Bachmann Thomases are STUPID money) Few issues. Whilst this a 3D print kit that was designed for the chassis, it was designed in a way that it was 'minimum bash'. So it sat way too high. Cutting away the mounts on the print, and the backs of the splashers (little train mudguard things) I was able to get it down to a near-prototype buffer height. Mounted as such. P/O cut away some of the gearbox casing that made Thomas's eyes move (read, dart wildly about) so a LiPo could be fitted in the place where it was. Sadly the LiPo included in the sale ballooned and he didn't realise until just before I was going to collect, and offered a slightly bigger Turnigy 3S that wouldn't fit in the space. However, cutting the remainder of the gearbox out allows it to sit over the chassis at the front so that is ideal. And after much fiddling cutting sections of the boiler backplate detail out to get it to clear the chassis, the 'top' back on. handsome thing. Currently going round it regluing and bolting parts together/reinforcing bits to survive being handled/derailed etc. Need to fix the roof, and remake all the hand rail details too, before a good weathering session. Speaking to the chap I bought it from (showing the work I'd done as I thought he would be interested to see it) he then says he has been printing mineral wagons, so we are going to try to come to an arrangement for him to make me some wagon 'kits' for it. Awesome stuff.
