Just picked up an old moped from a house clearance with no paperwork or number plate. Initially thought i'd be ok as it still had an old tax disc in the holder but this soon disintegrated when I tried to take it out. Is it possible to do a vin check somehow that will give me the reg no?

I think someone in the trade might be able to HPI a chassis number and bring up the plate.

DVLA will issue a new V5 using the frame number if you enclose a letter explaining the circumstances of why you don't have the reg.

Hi I bought a triumph without a v5.i filled the form out and sent it off and waited.after a few weeks I phoned them they said there was a descriptive error on the vin.i quoted the vin to the person and they said that those vin numbers did not match the regisration I was trying to use.i did ask the person what reg did they have against my vin but they said they were not allowed to give that information out over the phone.ifilled and sent off another form with a dating certificate and a letter explaining that I did not know what the reg was I did not receive any v5.they are sending me down the age related root now.they know what the reg is,I have mot, dating certificate, photos i sent to support my application they just don't want you to have the original reg.

Depending on age of moped, number possibly transferred already.
They were a quite popular route (cheapness) for transferring ageless plates.

Having a similar problem with my buggy
No logbook or plate,
Clear unmolested vin that comes up as a blue beach buggy on isitnicked.com with the last three of the registration
But dvla are trying to push me for a built vehicle report
Tried one of those reg finders on eBay but no luck
