Sorry to revise an old post, but..... I’ve read the above and still a little unclear. Can I double check. If I wanted to chop to outer panels and roof off a modern 2000 era coupe and drop the body of a classic on top, it would lose both identities and have to go on a q plate? Once the work was complete, who do I take it to for an inspection. Is it the Iva test? Thanks I’d say you’ll need a BIVA test.

You will need BIVA as you are altering the monococque . Removal of roof = immediate BIVA .

i think your ok altering bolt of panels and even a bolt off shell if its separate from chassis but you cant roof chop a monococque shell without a test. a good modern car to start with if you don't want to go through the test is a bmw z3 all bolt off panels and no roof but if you cut the windscreen frame about that would need a test. iam no expert so don't take my word for it

I mean a modern truck with a chassis.Has a bolt on cab.Leave the cab bolted to the chassis but re shape the style chop the roof.Swap the square head lamps to old style round ones re shape the front grill swap the bumpers from plastic to tube ones,Just make it a wierd shape.

As long as the chassis isn't touched thats fine. Just remember you are supposed to comply with C&U though

C&U = Construction & Use regulations.
Different to MOT rules, these are what vehicles are designed to in the first place and vary wildly depending on age of vehicle.
Think headlight position, sharp edges, seatbelts, etc etc.
