Hah, didn't know there were two different Waxoyls. Still interested in hearing where I can find Bilt Hamber's independent scientific test results, just because I'm curious. Lets find out - I'll ping them an e mail on Monday - Has an aside not independent but I am aware that Dinitrol have their own salt spray booth based at their HQ in Warrington for undertaking their product research

Bilt hamber does well in that test.
Salt spray test is horrific for ferrous materials.
Entirely subjective but my experience of bilt hamber is their products are generally better than any other equivalent I've used. That's not to say they're the best but I've yet to come across better than them.
Good report and ill be using the bilt hamber on the morris and escort.

The bottom line is they are all far better than nothing but no one product is going to give the toughness you need on underbody areas and the penetrative and rust converting properties you need in enclosed spaces. Over the years I have used waxoyl and bilthamber products, no doubt the Bilthamber is better particularly in doors etc where the waxoyl simply doesent get into the seams but I still use waxoyl on the undersides which seems to work well enough.

Exciting though the Waxoyl debate is, can we get back to the Corsair? Now I like all Grumpy's restoration threads, but for some reason I'm fascinated by this one. I don't know why, I have never been a massive Corsair fan. In fact, the only bit of knowledge I have about them is that it was the last Ford UK car to be built with flat glass side windows. That's a question that has never come up in the pub quiz, but one day it might...

I also believe it was the underbody used for the capri, given their relatively low value (in old ford terms) it is great to see one being restored to this level.

I'm not enough of a Ford anorak to back you on this but it most certainly copies much of the Cortina floor pan & bulkhead along with several other bits like door hinges and no doubt a good chunk of the mechanicals / drivetrain

Interesting reading for the salt chamber testing.
Never used any of these products but if I were to then the Dynax S50 looks excellent. I used some Dinitrol (not sure what grade) in the A posts of the pop, but the rest is prepped & painted on both sides so not subject to rust in the normal way.
Chris, what would you recommend for exposed parts like the hollow headlamp bolts/nuts on my inner front wings as the salt has not been kind to the Cad plating so I need to either gloss paint them or coat them in something to protect them.

The Capri and the Escort share a lot of their floorpan IIRC.

Mark - There are a couple of products : Dinitrol Corroheat 4010 is a clear wax but high temperature for engine bays - tested to 200c available in aerosol for convenience www.rejel.com/dinitrol-4010-high-temperature-rust-proofing-engine-coating-wax-500ml-aerosol-90mm-straw/Dinitrol High Performance Clear Underbody Wax - This is similar to the above and tested to 180c www.rejel.com/dinitrol-high-performance-clear-underbody-wax-500ml-aerosol-can/Peter - who's Javelin I did the restoration on which is now in Switzerland has sated the same thing that some of the plating on the bolts / washers is starting show early signs of surface rust along with any bolts that were painted on the underside of the car and where they have been checked for tightness and the paint has been disturbed - the car is back in the UK in May and I will give a good dousing of Dinitrol ML whilst he is visiting us

Thanks Chris, will look into getting a tin now. Does it dry hard or tacky?

I used the corroheat stuff in the roof of the minor as i didnt want it seeping into the hesdlining, seems to have worked fine so far.
On the salt spray, the chamber involves heat cycling at 100% saline humidity, it simulates a year of the worst enviroment every 2 weeks, seeing cars torn down after this is pretty eye opening.

benign question incoming, i remember you striking off panels with pencil to mark them as "done". but you don't paint over the pencil marks, so is there another quick run over ?

Very quickly approaching RTU now (Real Time Updates) More skims required on the front door Just the glaze to block back Which now just leaves the sill swage edge to complete On the nearside of the car is the spare wheel well which deflects any spray off the rear wheel On the offside there is nothing It all gets thrown up against the boot floor Fabricated a deflector plate up and welded it on Problem resolved Good idea that plate. I do a similar idea on Ford's but at the top of the inner wing / bulkhead / A pannel area totally closing that recess of that collects road curse word and rotts the back of the inner wing out
