I started making parts for this project 2011. Don't even want to hazard a guess as to the number of hours I spent on it. Ran for the first time in Overloon, Holland, last weekend Saw some photos of it next to a King Tiger which made it look like a Dinky I was going to say it is like a real tank, only smaller

Emergency petrol can cap is a complex bit of art.
Knurling is beautiful but tell me about the nipple inside, isthat for a retaining chain so as not to lose it along the way?

One of those brass petrol caps would look cracking on a Mini. I hate to think how much it'd cost to get one made!
I always wanted to be able to machine knurling on things, but I think I'd just end up adding it to everything. Phone? Knurled. Wedding ring? Knurled. Coins? Knurled.

Yes, there is a chain on that nipple to stop you losing the cap. It was interesting in that they had two full time researchers scouring all resources to find out what the chain originally looked like. They eventually found a very bad photo of it. From there I was able to make a couple of tools to make the chain. One stamped out the blanks from flat plate, the other folded it over itself twice...

Well that was another weekend full of promise that didn't deliver 😂 Started off with me dragging my sleepy head out of bed Friday morning two am after being informed by the missus that the car alarm was going off. Having had an incident recently where my cctv picked up two scrotes have a good look around, I decided it would be best if I investigated further. Pulled on some shorts and out the front barefoot. Turned out Someone who shall remain nameless had left the window slightly open on her car and the rain had set it off. That attended to, back into the front garden where I decided it would be fun to slip on the steps and have a quick, pre sleep nap on the cold peabeach next to the side of the house, half sheltered from the rain by lying half in the hedge. Lay there awhile before deciding cold peabeach does nothing for me and decided to venture in ,instead. Through the front, the hall, the lounge, the kitchen. Glass of water. May as well go sit on the throne downstairs before going back to bed. Throne session rudely disturbed by hysterical Mrs Bravo, who by this time was convinced something is amiss and has come to find me. She was convinced somebody had tried to do me in. Me? I was enjoying one of life's small pleasures, half asleep and blissfully unaware of the Trail of blood right through the house and pool of blood under my foot. First aid administered and the 6cm gash on the ball of my foot dressed accordingly I went and lay on the couch while the long suffering Mrs Bravo shampooed the carpets. Don't think my comment of " I told you I wasn't good company if woken up in the middle of the night," went down very well....😂😂 So rest of the weekend spent with my feet up....Anyway,could of been worse. Could have been the week before and then samta22 could have had the pleasure of pushing me around the Goodwood weekender in a hastily borrowed wheelchair. Could have ended up like Little Britain, just this time with the bald bloke doing the pushing...😂😂😂

The new components for the cab have arrived eventually That will form the door apertures and the A pillar. Slightly bigger profile than original to get me a bit more space for the roll cage. Need to come up with a way of holding this down without distorting it when I cut it. Needs to be cut at various angles accurately before I Tig weld the frame together. Would normally have just machined a profiled block to clamp it with, but following the thunderstorm at the weekend, my cnc mill got struck by lightning. Popped the filter on the three phase incoming side. Two week to get a replacement from Siemens. So onto plan B...

Having followed your threads for years, I suspect you've already arrived at the best/most clever method of cutting the components, but if not.... Rip two lengths of sturdy plywood, screw and glue together at right angles (remove screws once glue sets), glue wood spacers/standoffs on bottom and return of ply which will hold components at the desired attitude at which they will be cut, place wax paper (or some other thin barrier) between outside of components and spacers/plywood form, clamp component in place and fill space between component and ply with expanding spray foam. Let foam cure, then trim. Once ready to cut, clamp component to form, secure to compound miter saw table and cut away using toothed metal circular saw blade. Form is sacrificial, so length needed is determined by number and angle of cuts.... Might work. Before foam drys in tube, wrap head and feet with release agent, spray foam over outside and let cure. Wear results when once again investigating possible evil-doers outside... Doing so will save carpet cleaning... Looking forward to learning how you make the cuts, Lance

Good idea Lance 😊 I have a similar idea in mind, just not with spray foam. Last time I used that I landed up looking like a cross between a blonde with a bob and a mushroom...
I don't have a problem with carpet cleaning...the wife does 😂😂😂

Lucky being unlucky. Foot will grow back. Cnc mill can be repaired. I needed some time to put my feet up. No ultra urgent jobs for the cnc mill, but have loads of Cnc turning to do. So will get that done instead. All good 😊

JB - sounds like a comedy of errors - we could probably write a book full of them between us - last week whilst doing the door cards on a Javelin I had removed all interior door handles from the car - went to move said car and reversed it out of the workshop - needless to say the click that I heard was the drivers door catch locking me inside with no way of getting out - eventually after 20 minutes managed to release myself by activating the grease laden - sprung loaded door mechanism by forcing it with a painful prising of a single finger - in the same week I smacked my head on a low timber beam seven times whilst emptying a loft of Jowett related items but the most painful event that week was when the elasticated bungee cord let go on a trailer whilst I was securing the load - smacked me at great speed straight in the top lip with the hooked end - Looked like I was doing an impression of Pete Burns lips for several days !

Could have ended up like Little Britain, just this time with the bald bloke doing the pushing...😂😂😂 Well at least you would have the phrases sorted for the various exhibits "I don't like it...", "Want that one!" etc. However if you'd have said "want to go as a smurf" you may have found yourself stuck in Kent 😂 Not good news re the CNC but a hint that you need to rest that foot. Sure you have plenty else to keep you busy, not to mention scheming things for the Ape. After my weekend adventures (will update thread in a sec), the trailer is now boarded and so will handle three wheelers with ease
