For my birthday, my stepdaughter got me the big campervan set. Brilliant! Except...it's a Chinese knock-off, and has some pieces missing. Does anyone know what the compatibility is like with these? They *look* like Lego, but can't be sure, they could be just different enough that genuine pieces won't fit. Reputedly the compatibility is very good, so I'd just add the missing bits with 'real' Lego.

Cheers, pretty cool how they’re actually set into the bricks so you can click them into the build.

Cheers, pretty cool how they’re actually set into the bricks so you can click them into the build. Yeah, very clever. They come with photographic instructions which aren't great but aren't terrible. They're written so you can retro-fit to an already built Lego set which is handy. I found the wires (which although tiny like a hair's breadth) are really springy and caused a few problems with routing so they didn't pop bricks off when under tension. And despite being really thin they're thick enough to cause problems in a few places; for eg the nosepiece of the camper mounts as one sub-assembly and the wires would prevent it seating properly onto the studs of the van part. So the entire front kept falling off until I relieved a little channel for the wires into some of the bricks with a file. But overall, having them is better than not having them so thumbs up from me, And if you want them for your home-made Acty then you'll miss a lot of the faff of having to retro-fit precisely to a massively complicated already built set anyway

Great thread. I've also go the VW camper van and a smaller version of the bug but no pictures of those at the moment. Might have to invest in the light kit for the van as that's cool. I've had this kit since new. Although its quite dusty in the picture, when I took it apart to store it away many years ago I spend an age cleaning all the pieces and putting them back in the right boxes to match up with the instructions. Might get it out one day and build it up again. Lego 8448 super car. A rare kit nowadays I believe 100220091822 by Adam Blackshaw, on Flickr Adam

Can I join in with "Cobi"? I work with kids in a residential care setting, did the Spitfire with two of them helping. Once each of them was a bit distracted, one was a page ahead of me getting blocks ready! I felt the Cobi blocks went together well, and held together. After kids went to bed, I built the 109 and did this for the kids to find in the morning... Might have to work on that!

Good stuff, I've got the two WWI [planes Lego did a while ago (Tri-plane and Sopwith) really must build them up again and hang them from the ceiling.
Out of interest, how do you find using Lego (other building blocks are available) with disabled (mental or physical) children?

Our guys aren't either, although they have missed a lot of school for various reasons. They have various issues with delayed development, but the hardest part is keeping them off their consoles. They're all convinced they're going to be games programmer's!

Got two of them on this tonight, took about three hours. I kept leaving them to see how well they dealt with the teamwork aspect, and they did well taking turns to build while the other hunted for pieces. Chuffed!

What I really want is a big American truck, preferably a conventional rather than a cabover, but I'm not overly keen on the new Mack that Lego have out.
