ooff....wonderful surprises lurking underneath...I'm finding the same traps in different areas while working on the bed of my pickup truck...luckily, I found a slightly better one off another truck so am able to work on it upside down or sideways!.....
I like these little Subarus.....always have....great project.

Thanks for the feedback, much appreciated. Managed to sort some more pictures out. So where were we?? In this picture you sort of get the idea of what I was planning - I found a scrap truck and cut a lashing eye off the front of the pick up bed (an area not affected by the usual rot) Great I can fix the lashing eye but it doesnt sort the problem out - it just covers it up!!(be warned if you look at one of these!!! PB195492 by Anglia305e, on Flickr So what to do? much head scratching - you cant access properly from inside the wheelarch, you cant get a new 1/4 panel - yes you can bodge it but that was not an option so what to do - yep cut up a prefectly good and straight panel to get to the route cause. I want this truck to be right and to last. so here goes PC105552 by Anglia305e, on Flickr Yep as suspected PC105553 by Anglia305e, on Flickr PC105554 by Anglia305e, on Flickr PC105555 by Anglia305e, on Flickr PC105557 by Anglia305e, on Flickr PC105558 by Anglia305e, on Flickr PC105559 by Anglia305e, on Flickr And the scrap piece from a spares truck PC105560 by Anglia305e, on Flickr which will fit here PC105561 by Anglia305e, on Flickr cleaned up and treated PC105562 by Anglia305e, on Flickr Note the straight edge to prevent distortion when welding PC105563 by Anglia305e, on Flickr ready for welding PC105564 by Anglia305e, on Flickr PC105565 by Anglia305e, on Flickr that looks better PC105566 by Anglia305e, on Flickr Great work, I have much the same problem with my mk3 Astra, rot by the fuel filler which requires good metal to be cut out from one side or the other in fairness yours does look clean otherwise, seen a few of these around that are absolutely hanging

wow, where did the welds go?!...great job on that outer panel. very intimidating....
the inner filler neck area came out good too...I guess you had to declare war on that section...no other choice.

Looks like your doing a great job, It looks just like mine. My one is in a similar or worse state, so much so that I lost enthusiasm for it and decided to track down a rot free one. Its not without it's issues either as its been sitting for 10yrs and critters of some description have been lodging in it and eaten half the loom and heater box. Old - New -

Looking good, where did you get your rear disc conversion? I'm in the process of getting xt rear hubs from Aus so I can convert to discs.

I bought them from a guy in the UK - he told me they were from the estate version (he sourced them from the US). To be honest I'm not 100% sure - all the fittings are included and it looks a straight swap. The original drums were ok on mine as you would expect from a 36k truck but the backing plates are shot...

Lucky find! I'm currently on the hunt for a roll bar but no success so far. I'm making one for mine, I've had the hoop made and bars to tag down to the wheel arches (I had 2 made so if successful i'll let you know) but its to my own design i've not copied owt so watch this space. Regards the parts and finding them, I bought this truck in 2013 and it took me 3 years to source the parts - I only started this properly at the start of the year but i've fallen in the trap before of starting a project and then having it derailed due to no parts. Once again thanks for the comments, I have always wanted one of these trucks since I was 13 years old for reasons that will become obvious. I gave up looking a few years ago due to how bad they were and trying to find a good one. This was a very lucky find and i'm over the moon with it. The corrosion on it is so minimal comapared to many and also it had not been messed about with which helped (being one previous owner and low miles I think also helped) Anyways I left it with the rear bed finished - a skim of filler and sealer round the edges (I plan to use Raptor on this for the finsihed result)

Hmm, wanted one since you were 13? I think I know which way this is heading, anything to do with one of these? This is mine... I'd be very interested in your extra rollbar, please keep me posted, it's good to see the progress your making, it's gone in all the same places as my red one.
