I havent been on here for years, when I last had a couple of Sunbeam Lotus'. I had always been looking for another and almost bought one from Bristol but couldnt justify 20k for something that will sit in the garage 95% of the time. I'd always liked Caddy's so decided to have a look for one, ovver about 12 months there was a couple that were in the condition I wanted but they were usually sold before I got there or I was working, then one night this one popped up on ebay and I managed to get in early and arrange to get down the following day to pick it up. It didnt get far, literally 8 miles down the road before it cut out and wouldnt run again so it got transported the 240 miles back to Newcastle which wasnt cheap. I did abit of fiddling and came the conclusion that newly refurbed injector pump had curse word itself, so got it transported off to a fuel specialist The tank was full of metal shards and some sort of algae growth which the pump has picked up and basically ate itself. So the pump got rebuilt, again, as well as the injectors being reconditioned. I took the tank away to get opened up, blasted and coated, like new. About 6 weeks after buying the thing it was finally ready and running well, quite surprised at how well an old 1.6 donkey engine with no turbo can go. Got it home, gave it a wash then put it away as I've completely missed show season. Waiting for a few bits and pieces from VW Heritage and I have a few plans for it keep me busy over winter.

I love these. Used to use them as workhorses in the garage, maintaining farm machinery. You just couldn't kill them. I wish I'd known about the Vectra brake upgrade back then though!

I do like a Caddy (although mine was a mk 2), there's plenty of helpful info and advice (and witty banter) over on the Caddy forum www.vwcaddy.com

I got a few parts this weekend which I'll fit at some point this week then I have a load of little bits to take off and send for nickel plating.

Yes to more pickups!
Shame your first experience with it was a touch catastrophic. I remember selling a VW Beetle which had a linkage issue in that occasionally with the right(wrong) circumstances it would pop out, I told the chap about it. Less than twenty minutes from my place it did that, but worse it trapped the spring in it which made it really hard to pop back into place, I think he was seriously considering telling me to keep the car when I turned up and fixed it. I'm guessing you had similar thoughts?

I'm guessing you had similar thoughts? I was disappointed more than anything as I missed the good weather and show season, the recovery cost and then the cost of the parts, labour etc quickly mount up but hey ho, atleast I know its done and done properly. I've been fannying about with cars long enough to know its never straightforward and whatever you think its going to cost you might as well double it. The car has a bit of a story behind it, the previous owner was a painter for Rolls Royce and rebuilt this in his spare time at work, the paint and finish is immaculate. If the weather ever dries up over the weekend I'll get some decent pictures up before I begin to take bits off for polishing/ plating

Done a few bits on the caddy, main thing being a chrome bumper, just need to get a black rub strip and reg bracket. Sorted out the missing steering surround plastics, gti gearknob to replace the ally one, under bonnet bits and pieces etc etc. I'll have to get some more pics at some point

Been doing a few bits and pieces on the Caddy inbetween work, children and decorating. Nothing exciting, turret covers, new dipstick and seal, bonnet rubbers and licence plate holder. I also picked up a set of Ronal Turbos, they need a refurb and tyres but theres no rush and I havent decided a color. As they're 15''s they should fill the arches alot better than the current 13'' ATS

Sun came out for a change so decided to see how the Ronal's sat. Main reason for the change is to gain ground clearance, a reminder of how low it was came when I couldnt get the thing jacked up without driving onto a pile of planks. They look decent and clearance is much improved, need to sort out a refurb and new tyres in the near future, service planned for this weekend.

Got the wheels refurbed, glad I went for something a bit different colorwise. I was thinking to get the background of the writing done in the same color as the car but I prefer just the gun metal Next up is a service and sump gasket replacement

Very nice with the wheels can I suggest some rim edge protection it would be a pity to scrub them on a curb.

Got around to servicing it the other day, pulled the sump to replace the gasket and give it a paint, replaced aux belt, tidied up some wiring and some other general mincing. Got a hold of some centre caps for the Ronal's, hard to find and bloody expensive new Then some other little things, sanded and painting brackets and hinges, replacing missing bushes on the bonnet and tailgate, ordering stainless bolts etc. Even took it out for a drive when the sun was out, it has subs and crossovers, they sound terrible so thats next on my list of things to sort.
