I see your in Hampshire, have you ever been to silent pool? Its totally clear, you can see right to the bottom, perfectly. Really eerie at night too. Been to it - I managed the restoration of it !! - it was literally less than half a mile up the road from the office of the company that used to work for - a specialist waterways civil engineering company Well that wasnt the answer was looking for, Pretty cool fact that. You should be getting free Silent Pool gin! Without thinking too deeply about it, if you hadnt managed the restoration of it, we might not have their Gin! When was the restoration carried out?

Yep - I have a bottle of 'Silent Pool' in the collection I see your in Hampshire, have you ever been to silent pool? Its totally clear, you can see right to the bottom, perfectly. Really eerie at night too. We were staying nearby five years ago and went for a look. It's spotlessly clear and strange, but I've got to admit I didn't see a single living thing in it so wondered if the water was somehow toxic. Then we wandered into Guildford and met a bloke from the distillery selling the Silent Pool gin at the "I saw you coming" artisan market, so we bought a bottle. It's very "light" so doesn't stand up to being diluted by much tonic. I liked it enough to buy it from time to time if it's on offer in Booths.

One of the COVID realities at our house is that gin consumption has not merely skyrocketed but actually begun. We have been married 35 years and I'll wager we haven't even had a bottle of gin in the house that whole time. SWMBO and I are both beer and wine drinkers as are our peers (unlike our cocktail drinking hipster children). However, I thought that SWMBO might like a GnT as it is not sweet. Turns out she really does particularly with a squeeze of grapefruit. Then our tenants (we have an apartment on the house - where the children (mid 20's) of family friends live) decided they like GnTs as well - the husband only drank ginger ale - and now.... :0 So, a bottle of beefeaters in the cupboard along with a two bottles of Ontario gin - one infused. We actually went to one of the distilleries the other week as a COVID outing - they have socially distanced charcuterie and negroni packages. Oh and turns out SWMBO likes mohitos as well (we have a mint plant at the back door) and of course I have never lost the penchant for single malt and bourbon. To be clear we are both terrible drinkers in that one each is more than enough but drinkies on the back patio at the end of the day has certainly has proved to be a delightful side benefit of this time.

It's a bit past the season for it, but chuck some elderflower heads, a slice of lemon, a dash of sugar (not much) and some boggo gin in a kilner jar for a week or two. Rack it off and enjoy with tonic. Really cracking stuff We do sloe gin as well, and all sorts of other infusions (mainly with vodka) to make liquers.

We tend to switch on and off gin.
Madam likes Bombay Sapphire and I don't mind now and again with angostura bitters and will have a couple before a meal.
The girl's have a pop at the local stuff occasionally, chilled beyond belief and with Sprite.
Tends to be, "Oh, let's get a bottle of that," whilst out shopping rather than something on the list.

About 20 years ago when the work was undertaken its all on the Albury Estate where the office that I worked from was based - in fact our office was the old saw mill for the estate that had been converted in later years - under the floor of the directors office was the original sawpit for hand cutting the timber that had the floor suspended over it when it was converted in later years
