Well, the doors and boot are painted.
There are a few runs on one door, but the finish is not too bad for me otherwise.
I've shut it all up with the heaters running away, but i'm pretty certain the paint is blooming again.
Will see how its doign when its dried off a bit.

I started the day off with a dust, air dust, and a panel wipe P1040986 by jono_misfit, on Flickr P1040987 by jono_misfit, on Flickr P1040988 by jono_misfit, on Flickr P1040989 by jono_misfit, on Flickr mixed up the paint, then did another wipe P1040990 by jono_misfit, on Flickr then on to a mist coat P1040991 by jono_misfit, on Flickr P1040992 by jono_misfit, on Flickr then the firs colour coat P1040993 by jono_misfit, on Flickr P1040994 by jono_misfit, on Flickr P1040995 by jono_misfit, on Flickr P1040996 by jono_misfit, on Flickr then on to the last coat. With the problems with blooming last time, for this last coat I turned off the forced air feed and just left the extractor on to see if it'd help. P1040997 by jono_misfit, on Flickr P1040998 by jono_misfit, on Flickr P1040999 by jono_misfit, on Flickr I was woried it was blooming, but with the heater on for an hour or so it all seemed ok. In fact better than OK. I achieved the best paint finish on the whole car! P1050001 by jono_misfit, on Flickr P1050002 by jono_misfit, on Flickr P1050003 by jono_misfit, on Flickr A nice lovely smooth coat of paint.. Except for the drivers door where I managed a few runs... P1050004 by jono_misfit, on Flickr Fortuitously they are where the door number square will go... and a slight run on the boot P1050005 by jono_misfit, on Flickr P1050006 by jono_misfit, on Flickr I then cleaned down the boot hinges, primed, and painted them. P1050007 by jono_misfit, on Flickr and the bolts as well P1050008 by jono_misfit, on Flickr

I left it a few hours doing other little jobs, but I needed to clear some space to get the car back in. Nothing for it, carefully fill the holes.... Bolt in the boot. P1050009 by jono_misfit, on Flickr P1050010 by jono_misfit, on Flickr Drivers door. P1050011 by jono_misfit, on Flickr P1050012 by jono_misfit, on Flickr Biggest issue with this is, the top pin is worn so the top of the door leans down slightly and catches the body. I still need to put in the pinch bolts, but i'm not conviced this will take out all the slop. If not I will need to find a replacement. and passengers, which fits fine P1050013 by jono_misfit, on Flickr P1050014 by jono_misfit, on Flickr I mopped up the few puddles that had generated over night, then pushed it back inside P1050015 by jono_misfit, on Flickr Its slowly looking like a car again. My tyres have turned up, so I'll be looking to get them fitted to my wheels soon. Just the spoilers to repair / fill / paint, then thats the painting done for the moment. I need to order up a plastic window kit so I can get it water tight. I think next weekend may involve me attempting to fit a windscreen.

I had not anticipated how much of a pain in the backside it would be finding somewhere to fit my tyres onto my wheels.
Most of the places round by me just say "if we don't provide the tyres we don't fit them". Thats funny, you don't list competition tyres.....
I've found one place who have said bring them round and we'll have a look, hopefully they will take pitty on me tomorrow!

Often find smaller family garages do fitting for the likes of Blackcircles so if you do a quick look for fitting depots near you should throw up some potentials if this goes south. Going rate from Blackcircles is £10 + vat per wheel I believe. James.

With us at work, the insurance generally doesn't allow fitting tyres of unknown quality or a certain age But then again, most of the stuff that comes in and wants their own stuff fitted the tyres are usually all perished anyway

I called my local place, and he's said no problems bring them round.
Being in the middle of a farming community they do everything so should have though of them first!

I think the issue was fitting new ones they didn't provide.

coming together nicely, have you got the plastic spacer to fit the screen with (there are 4 across the bottom and 4 accross the top)

The screen that came off didn't have any spacers.
Its only got two on the bottom with little tangs to hold the screen as it sets.
Is there something missing?

The ford parts screen lists 4 of one type for the bottom and 2 each of a different type for the top, the pictures are pretty awfull so difficult to tell if you really need them, I know you do need bit of a gap between the glass and the body to stop the screen cracking as the body flexes.

I picked the wheels from the garage. All went on fine, other that the apprentice refusing to touch them as they were so new he was scared of scratching them 😆

Today was mainly a thinking day. fitted the boot pins P1050016 by jono_misfit, on Flickr P1050017 by jono_misfit, on Flickr P1050018 by jono_misfit, on Flickr then started fitting door latches plates. These have a paper gasket that has seen better days P1050019 by jono_misfit, on Flickr P1050020 by jono_misfit, on Flickr so bought some gasket paper and made some new ones P1050021 by jono_misfit, on Flickr P1050025 by jono_misfit, on Flickr I then found these kevinsP1050026 by jono_misfit, on Flickr Is this the spacers you were talking about? then fitted the bonnet pins P1050027 by jono_misfit, on Flickr P1050028 by jono_misfit, on Flickr To ensure these are tight I did the typical motorsport thing of cut some bits of spare hose and slip them over the bonnet pins.

I then dug out the rear spoilers to work out which ones to use Genuine lower spoiler, not in great condition and a number of notches and scratches, and at some point someone has cut reliefs in it for bonnet pins. P1050035 by jono_misfit, on Flickr genuine upper rear spoiler. P1050036 by jono_misfit, on Flickr The issue with this is, at some point it was dropped and one leg snapped off. P1050037 by jono_misfit, on Flickr It was already repaired when I bought it. The aluminium lower mount has also corroded and split the GRP so it needs repaired. GRP replica upper spoiler. Generally in good condition, however the lower bolt hole insert has broken out of the fiberglass so it jsut spins, plus its so corroded its unuseable so I need to cut it open and replace. P1050038 by jono_misfit, on Flickr P1050039 by jono_misfit, on Flickr After a test fit its also clear it needs a different hole drilled in the boot top in order to mount it GRP replica lower spoiler. OK condition, but has a warp to it and has split on the jjoin between the two molding. P1050040 by jono_misfit, on Flickr also has a fixing bolt sheered off and the insert is spinning. P1050041 by jono_misfit, on Flickr P1050042 by jono_misfit, on Flickr Having looked at them all, I'm going to repair the original spoilers and fit them. so had to do a test fit :-) P1050043 by jono_misfit, on Flickr P1050044 by jono_misfit, on Flickr P1050045 by jono_misfit, on Flickr I do like escort spoilers :-)

I do like the spoilers on these However, if it was mine, I'd be having just the lower and no whale tail

Its tempting to add a 3rd, i mean, as per the programme it was definitely designed that way....
Big wing will be going on. I just think they look all wrong without them.

At the time I preferred just the lower one as per the later small turbo cars, but now it is such an iconic part of the car they just look wrong without them.
