Just found these dumped up an alley and I've dragged them home! Are they worth doing anything with? Or shall I drag them back to where I found them? Both mark III the red ones been hand painted not sure if the black matte one is original or not.

Probably worth checking they've not been stolen first. although not sure why they'd be stolen and then dumped.

I've been after a grey one for a while, was going to say if you sell let me know value wise, not a lot as they're not complete, but cool nonetheless.

Well, if you wanted to come and collect the black one, you can have it free of charge. I'm in Gillingham, Kent if you're interested. I'll keep hold of the red one and try to do something with that.

In need of something to do in the dark evenings and unable to go and buy a new project, ive dug out my brothers old mk2 Raleigh Tomahawk out the garage. Unfortunately its a bit less complete than i remember, so if anyone has any bits (seat to sissy bar bolt, sissy bar springs, rear mudguard and rear brake assembly with mudguard bracket) or even a whole bike, let me know.

I've had a rummage through my stash as I thought I had a mudguard, but I've got nothing that would suit I'm afraid. I'll keep an eye out for any bits though incase anything shows up.

So there was a bike local to me (as in on the way to the supermarket local) ive had my eye on on ebay for a few days, told the Mrs about it but decided to have a clear out in the garage to pay for it, which got me approvals, got the money together last night (this way it has technically cost me nothing and we all like "free"), went on ebay to buy it and guess what... yes its gone. Anyway today its my 30th, off work, breakfast in bed, got told to hurry up and get dressed so we could get shopping in for tea. And guess where we ended up... She bought it me as I'm hard to buy for, and the fact id sold some stuff made it palatable for her. So this is my 30th birthday present I put the pump in for scale, this thing is absolutely massive, it was sold as having 20" wheels, and they're 24", and was also very rusty, them little pits that you can scratch off with your nails, hence cheap. I've spent all afternoon with Brasso, Silvo and wire wool, the wheels are beyond saving but I don't care, its awesome and with the 3 speed Nexus its ridiculously easy to ride. Its come up well, in fact a lot better than I hoped. But it also means my Apollo Retro beach cruiser is now surplus to requirements, and will also be for sale shortly.

Just picked up a 1 owner from new Super Grifter, and the only thing that's missing is the front wheel nuts (been in a loft nearly 40 years). Does anyone know what size nuts I should be looking for? I've always had spares and just thrown them on but I'm fresh out and don't know what to order

So heres my new Grifter, I believe its a Super Grifter? Loft stored since 1985, came out yesterday. Thick with grease to stop it rusting, and apart from lacking a front wheel nut and a seat clamp all complete. Gonna give it a good degrease this weekend and see what it's like, also need a new seat as its just dry rotted out.

My worst worry about dying is my wife selling my stuff for what I told her it cost...

Nice. I see they use the Raleigh Bomber clamp-type handlebar stem.

That's pretty sweet. Is it big enough for you to ride yourself?

Do you know i tested out that very theory about 10 minutes ago, and the answer to that is yes, in the same way I can ride a bmx but look a bit stupid on it I reckon I could ride it a fair way before it hurt though, there's a fair amount of adjustability in it, almost like Raleigh thought "were on to something here, give it 40 years everyone will be riding these again". Anyway lacking one wheel nut and a seat clamp I set off to the immediate feeling of the crank going wobbly. These cotter pins are an absolute mare normally, I broke a decent size vice pressing out the ones on my last Chopper. Had one spare sp thought sod it I wonder if I can hack it out... it just fell out . So it rides ok, gears need oiling and adjusting properly, and if anyone has a set of amber walls, or just the one I'd be happy to rake them off your hands. I cleaned all the grease off with Wonder Wheels which worked really well, which revealed paint that says this bike wasn't used much, and it came up lovely with a good polish and wax. Need to see what I can do about a seat, its a strange shape but I may ask the mother in law to knit one for now Middle child stole it for a go, she said its incredibly heavy

Also just been through my parts stash, found an Ever Ready front light so bashed that on, and a pair of redlines, one new one half used, but at least they match. Also found some authentic 80s seat repair material (read insulation tape)

Looks cracking. Are those alloy wheel rims? I had a brand new red Grifter with the full-length rear mudguard back in the day (must have been late '70s), which I adored and tried to keep immaculate...until one day, when the BMX scene started, I decided to rub it down and rattle-can respray it white in an attempt to create a BMX; it all went horribly wrong, reacting with the enamel underneath. I later had a new 1984 Bomber 5-speed (terrific all-rounder), hence why I recognised the handlebar stem. Of course, shortly afterwards, the MTB scene started, so I naturally updated it all with a triple crank/15-speeds and alloy wheel rims in an effort to keep up the Joneses.

They're chrome with the gold coating on, so from a distance they just look rusty its in really good order to be fair apart from its flaking like mad on the handlebars. And yeah the stem is incredibly overkill, I wouldn't want the gears to slip and my knee meet it I know that:D
