Holy ****. When I saw the opening post, I thought "okay old bike". In that shade of period green. That is amazing. Quality resto, I want one! J Thanks man. I've got to say I love riding and tinkering with this thing... and like with an older car, you forgive it its little faults. If my modern specialized only selected half its gears or had the kind of breaking efficiency that this thing does I'd have been swearing at it and throwing it in bushes long before now. With this its just part of the charm!

Great bike for £25, but that saddle position ! Yeah, either the previous owner had crazy long arms or he just really hated his gooch!

I have a BSA and a Hercules awaiting restoration, seeing this has made me want to crack on with it so thanks for that. I also have a Dawes, albeit a much more modern one but it does have the honour of being the last of the UK made Dawes bikes. I have had it since i was 16 but I was struggling to ride it due to various injuries but a change to new, more upright handlebars has meant i can ride it comfortably once again.

So, finally got around to getting my new crankset fitted which meant I could also finally refit the front derailleur... All done just in time to take the bikes away with us on holiday... Here with my wife's Pendleton However, with less than a mile covered there was an issue... For a touring bike, this thing is geared incredibly high making hill climbing an issue. Factor in this, plus a heavy steel frame, plus the weight of me, plus this with these urchins in it... combined with a steep hill and... Balls... pedal has sheared right out of the crank arm pretty much writing off the pedals and the new crankset at the same time

Once back home, the old Dawes was hung at the back of the garage in shame. Then, weeks later, something popped up on a local selling site... out with the old... and in with the new! (well, slightly less old at least) Functioning bike once more! Still need to source pedals (currently stolen pedals from my wife's Pendleton), and I think the Dawes towing duties have come to an end (maybe time to source a 90's MTB for that...)
