Audi A8 4.2 V8 Quattro Sport.
1996 (N reg) on NI "ageless" plate
145,720 miles recorded, which will go up as I'm using it.
Reasonable amount of history but not complete enough to verify the mileage.
I've had it a bit over 2 years and done a little under 10k miles in it.
Although listed as Spares/Repair this is a complete, running, usable car with MoT until May 4th 2018.
Good bits:
- Complete, working 4.2L 32v V8, all aluminium "landmark car" with 300bhp and 4WD.
- Earlier 4-speed auto car so gearbox far less likely to self-destruct (not many of these left)
- Nice interior with superb heated, electric leather sports seats.
- 4 newish tyres - under 3k miles. Plenty of tread on full-size spare also.
- Drives nicely and pulls very well.
- Capable of 30mpg on a run. The average during my ownership is between 25 - 26 mpg.
Not so good:
- Cosmetically challenged - it's a 10 yard car. (see pics)
- Has a large oil leak (or leaks). Have changed the cam cover gaskets, but I think the camshaft oil seals are also shot, especially the right hand bank. This is a fairly big job (effectively a cam belt change plus a bit), which I don't have the time or energy for - hence the spares/repair.
- Recently started clonking from the front RH corner. Probably a balljoint.
- A/C not working. It does work (very well) if gassed up but only holds gas about a week. I changed the condenser - suspect the evaporator leaks.
- Ignition key doesn't match the others. Minor irritation really.
- Windscreen is cracked. At present this is barely visible from the drivers seat but will probably get worse. If you are buying the car to use/love/cherish etc then I can get this fixed on the insurance. However, if you want it to break for the engine I'm loath to spend 10% of the asking price on the windscreen excess!
I shall miss it when it's gone (the noise!), but it's one more car than I need and the full restoration that I'm doing on a Triumph GT6 means that time, energy and garage space to sort it's issues are just not available for the foreseeable future, so time to let someone else have a go.
