its only a 3 speed auto, so not much to do really. push the button, pull the stick back and it locks into drive. for hard launching you push the button again and pull back into first, then shift it like a manual to go up the gears. got you. p.s it wasn't a criticism as i didn't know if it had one on the original shifter. wondered if it had a shift indicator in the dashboard in a kind of 1960s high tech way

Mustang auto shifters have an indicator in the shifter base. i needed something very simple and clean looking to replicate a manual gearstick. the lokar is quite esy to understand and the mechanism means you can't knock it into reverse etc by mistake. Everything requires the button to be pushed, except for going from 1st into 2nd or drive.

I take it manual 4 speeds for these 60's fords are rather expensive and rare over here?
I'd love somthing like this.

There was me thinking that you cut yourself for a second! So you've gone back to the PCV setup? That should help with the oil leaks to be fair .

Had a full day on the falcon today to finish up a few jobs before the mot next week. Got the battery clamped down was the first mission then finished off the front passenger side wiring, so now I have indicators, side, main, dipped, horn and wipers. Also confirmed that the rear number plate light worked. Then started to refit the door cards but door interiors need some derusting and painting to keep them solid. I hadn't fired it up for a while but it took a few minutes of cranking to pull fuel through as it evaporates from the float bowl after a week idle.Engine seemed lacking in power and reluctance to rev and the car seemed to rock back. Twigged that it was it reverse. Yes I know, I need to rig up the neutral safety switch but I need to work out how to wire it in as this car is a factory manual. It appears some further adjustment to the shifter rod was needed, involving approx 10mm trimming off the rod to get the box into park when the shifter was in park. That involved an hour of faffing under the car. Will start it up tomorrow morning to see how it fairs as i'd like to test drive and check the brakes. Finished off by getting the stickers out, which I'd collected over the last few months.

I *think* I have the Haynes for the Stag. I can pass that on if you wish for a wiring diagram or photocopy something! IIRC that basically interrupts the starter solenoid feed assuming the switch is Normally Open (NO) when the car is in Neutral. If it gets too weak a feed you can always add a starter solenoid which in the case of the Stag brought about a few benefits ; the Dolly badly needed one but that's for another time!

Love this, its been bookmarked for ages, remember watching them race at Crystal Palace when I was a nipper, always wanted one, but when they were in my reach, other projects seemed to be in the way, the only one I had the cash to buy, went to look at it onlyto see it driving past on a trailer, ... on another note, you could tidy up the engine bay by rotating the battery and fitting shorter leads, that will help slightly with cranking, and lessen the chance of the cables fatiguing under their own weight

Atmo V8 Power . No slicks , No gas + No bits missing . Doing it in style. Austin A35van, very different------- but still doing it in style, going to be a funmoble

That'll explain the rough idle. Whilst it was running, I pulled the plug leads one at a time which identified no life at number one cylinder. Spark at the dizzy and plug lead so deduced a duff plug. It was quite tight to remove so took it slow. Clearly a new set needed.
