Hello folks. I saved this car from an uncertain fate and after a lot of work, it's looking for a new home. The TZX is pretty rare and features a sunroof, electric windows, central locking, 5 speed gearbox, chrome grill and oddly a front anti-roll bar (the same as fitted to the GT models) plus a slightly better interior. It did come out of the factory with body coloured bumpers - but a bit more on that later.
The following has been done to bring it back to good usable condition:
*New 3 piece clutch (new old stock Mintex kit)
*Fresh gearbox oil
*New timing belt and water pump
*Fresh coolant
*Engine service, filters, plugs and oil
*Rocker cover seal
*New distributor cap and rotor arm
*Recon driveshaft o/s (other one recent-ish)
*New front flexi- hoses
*New rear brake cylinders
*Brake fluid change
*New front bleed nipples (yes I got them undone!)
*Front brakes cleaned and checked
*4 replacement tyres (carefully selected part worns - 2 matched pairs I've fitted)
*A used Bosch battery
*New number plates
*12 months MOT
Also had a good clean, polish and slight touch up to the rear arches. There were a couple of small bits of welding (o/s front sill edge - now cleaned and painted - you'd struggle to see it but I have a picture if requested) plus a small plate on n/s inner wing in the usual place. I can't see any welding before this.
Things you should know...
The car has been a CAT C. I have known the vehicle for several years through the last 2 owners, the first of which purchased it from an auction with a damaged front bumper - this is why they are now grey rather than white. The rear one was fine but a matched pair was fitted. There is a slight scrape to the front cross-member under the bumper but nothing i'd be bothered about (I've seen worse damage from high curbs and bad parking).
I have done a lot of work but clearly as with most cars this age it's going to need maintenance and up-keep but is ideal for an enthusiast. Some bits and pieces that will need a look:
*Driver's side electric window. Worked okay until very recently. Last time I used it, it operated fine with the door shut but not open - I think the wiring needs checking (probably where is goes through the door shut).
*In heavy rain, water sometimes gets into the n/s front. Could well be the door seal rather than the sunroof as it's only happened in the recent rain and the interior has remained in good order.
*The o/s rear quarter has had a previous touch -up. The odd bubble is appearing. It will have been done the best part of 10 years ago.
*There are some minor dings/marks etc commensurate with age.
*There is a radio/CD player with a remote control that is included but needs refitting. It wasn't wired in quite right and flattened the battery.
*slight windscreen de-lamination in bottom corners and a fine crack that has run its course across one corner.
There are a few spares in the boot as pictures including the original dealer fit number plates that match the window stickers. I would prefer the original period plates but the rear one was deteriorating. The original wheel trims remain fitted. Period tax disk from 1991 included...!
