There's a beautiful vid of a police car running away on YouTube somewhere. For reference if you find that happening... Put in neutral, stop car, 5th gear, handbrake on, brakes anchored on, let the clutch up. That'll stop it. It happened to me on a ship I was on once. You don't wanna know how scary a farkin huge marine engine with pistons the size of oil drums that is limited to 600rpm is when it runs off with no way of stalling it!!! I bet that was a thing to behold!!!

Luckily we were in port. Abandoned ship till it was sorted.

I saw Golf Turbo - I'm guessing diesel?
My old Sierra 1.8TD had a couple of tries at this, many months apart. #1 cruising happily on a long motorway run at 70mph then clouds of black smoke and it just took off. Lots of hard braking eventually stopped it. #2 similar but the brakes wouldn't slow it so I turned the ignition off, it stopped but killed the pump. Fitted a replacement pump and the problem never happened again. Dodgy pump or internals in my case.
Mine would run happily for months below 60mph, but long runs at 70mph put it in the "danger zone". Scary stuff !

Scary stuff ! Yes Diesal mate. Same as above really yeah. It happened a few weeks previously doing about 70 but a blip on the throttle clearead it. And it has felt a little sluggish too!!!
