Across a 110th street. Crosstown traffic... Anybody for the Harlem shuffle? They got Elvis, we got Cliff Richard. Sure Tom Jones might have taught him how to move, but hey, Elvis is immortal. Where as Tom... Enough of my musing, the pull of America is strong in this one. I've been writing about all things auto for the last eleven years, and it all started here. In NYC. On July the 5th 1996 I landed at JFK with my best friend and we flew out again three months later. No mobile phones, no internet and no worries. A few miles under the wheels and I'm back, same schedule, same plan. I've got 88 days and 49 states at my disposal. So, here's a few spots to kick off the trip with, four days in NY and this is pretty much all I've seen. Granted I'm based in a middle class area of Manhatten, so I'm not expecting anything spesh but I'm a little disappointed... This includes standing on a street corner for an hour waiting for some cool stuff. Anyway, how's a California black plate Moggy sound eh? After that pic the taxi driver asked me if I wanted air-con, or an open window... Anybody for some federal spec bumper action? And some random parked action... As some of you may have read, I'm trying to register a vehicle at the moment. I haven't decided what vehicle yet, but I'm headed for Ohio tomorrow and a huge Ford meet, so who knows? One thing's for sure, there's more to come. Anybody want to take a ride? ;D Whoa, I thought I saw the Rmad back there... Nah, time to move on.

Cool Stuff Bryn. Hope you'll keep us all updated. Photos look like maybe Greenwhich Village? An early Minor in Manhatten! Wow! D'you think it drove from California! We came across a garage that had some old stuff at the Brooklyn end of the Brooklyn Bridge.

At what point should we send out search and rescue? ;D Have fun dude. November the 16th... 'Cos that means I've missed my flight. I've got some pretty good stuff lined up while I'm here which if it pans out will get posted up. The minor was lower East side Seth, the rest of the pics were around 87th street west, where I'm staying. I'll be back here in November for a week so I'm going to go explore then, when I'm guessing it won't be stupid hot and humid like it is now... Fan currently on high and chilled Minutemaid in hand. ;D

So, what date do you plan on attending Cars and Coffee then Ahaha, I should hit California towards the end of September. I'm in Nevada for the Silver State mid month, then depending on the transport situation I'll wander down through the desert to LA. So I'll be looking for some automotive caffiene action around then... I'll keep in touch, if you PM me your mobile number I could call nearer the time?

Across 110th Street is one of my all time favourite songs. Thought I'd drop that in.
Looking foward to more spots dude, have a good trip.
By the way, the old E28 made 309bhp at Fritz's the other day... ;D

If the timings are right you could always stop off at Bonneville on you way through to California for Speed Week, 12th-17th September.
I'm making the pilgrimage for that one!! ;D ;D ;D

Nice trip Bryn. I'm looking forward to more stuff. That Minor is gorgeous! It reminds me of a mate who moved to the US, stating that he's be buying himself a good muscle car. You know, what, he now runs MGs! including one with a Ford 302.............

So, 88 more days before we need another US spottage correspondent then, eh?
If you stood on an LA street corner for an hour you'd have enough pics for your own show! ;D I take it your collecting a few features/stories en route. I keep finding stuff from the Nigel G/Matt H trip recently (last year?) - two separate features in the same (Australian) Street Machine was unexpected though! ;D

*BRYN SPEAKING* Blimey, it's been a bit of week since I last managed to log in... Had wifi in the motel, but it won't let me touch RR... So as I'm spending this week with my amigo Jon Hill, who's v8wagon... I'm using his log in to update this thread. So where were we? NYC, here's a few more spots from the day I left. I robbed my mates mountain bike and did some laps of Manhatten, falling off it in Times Square was fun Thunderbird was pretty cheeky, I see you're pimp, I'm quite pimp too... THen there was this Jeep, airstream combo... Brand new, but worthy of a pic I reckoned. Nice road pair if you had the money, which I don't. AE86, tucked away on the lower west side. Next up, leaving NY...

Ahh, and thanks for the words guys... Magnetteman, if you're going to be at Bonneville, so am I. It's 2500 miles from here, and I don't have a vehicle to get there in, but hey details. So, had to get a hire for Jon and I to travel down to Ohio in for our week here doing car stuff. I turned up at the Budget office in Manhatten and they pulled out a spanking new Hyundai, 'real sweet ride' I was told. Hmmm. How much extra a day for for a Mustang is it? $15. How much for a stupid Englishman who wants to look like a cowboy? $10. Done ;D So 534 miles later, here it is outside the Econolodge in Heath Ohio. Jon's got some pics of the trip he may well post up... We've been here for a week doing car things, the pics will appear elsewhere, but here's a taster of what we've seen. 27K from new, kept in a Schwinn bike dealership most of it's life. In my search for automotive vahalla, I've stumbled across some absolute cherries. Try this '76 Econoline for size, $5000. Deep button velour interior and the biggest sun visor I ever saw. It nearly got bought... Then there was this suede fairlane, $7500 And here's some general pics from the all Ford show we were at...

So now I've got to find something for the drive... I reckon on about 7000miles in the two and half months I've got here. Here was candidate number one... It's still got potential, Mk2 Capri 2.8, five speed manual. Starship mileage and a set of Superlites, saweet... But... I'm in America, so I'm feeling some V8 love. It'd be rude not to eh? Tomorrow is D day, Jon leaves for the UK and takes the Mustang hire car with him. I'm in Ohio with a camera, a lap-top and some pretty spivvy head gear. I've got a long way to go and a short time to get there. It'll be interesting to see what happens next... When I can, I'll let you know
