03 daihatsu hijet 1.3 16v with lpg camper conversion.
Decided to try something different with a camper conversion this time. But was really unsure with my choice of van. So decided to buy a cheap one to start the project off. In case I decided to bail part way through.
1st off lower it as much as I possibly could!!!! So it doesn't fall over.
85mm rear and 75mm front which worked perfectly.
So how to make that ugly van look respectable. 1st worry was wheels.... as the hikers have a 110mm pcd which is basically trailer or caravan fitment. Anyway with my retro theme in mind and access to machining facilities I opted for some ford xr3 cloverleaf wheels. Offset perfect but pcd and centre bore need work.
Time to make that body look pretty....... hours and hours of filling and rubbing down. Begging to wish I had spent a bit more money on a straighter van!
Finally time to get spraying 2 coats of primer flattens off between coats then 3 top coats flattened off on the last coat then 2 coats of 2k clear coat. Wheels had the same treatment. Love the colour choice 👍
Now time for the internal fit out. Plans for a rock and roll bed with cooler and sink. Might even squeeze a games console and TV in yet. Also thoughts on a retro roof rack to possibly incorporate a small water tank and shower??? Any thoughts and ideas welcomed?
