The only issue I have is that I would like to divide down the Readers Rides section a bit ... However I'm not sure how I would divide it down yet, age doesn't feel right, type of modifications isn't right for the diverse nature I want, I've checked other forums and no one else has the answer either Looking at it from a different angle, I mentally split readers rides into 2 categories : "builds I follow" and "all other builds" Is it possible to add a "tick box" to every build thread so I can "tick" the ones I want to follow Then create 1 new sub-forum called "build threads I follow" - filtered to only show those with I have flagged
It would need some coding/database changes but would give everybody the tools to tailor the section the way they want it. See if the code from the "Participated" button can be copied as a starting point? It's not ideal but it's something to think about Late edit : How about a new Readers Rides sub-forum "Readers build threads I have bookmarked" (create a simple filter to use the info already in the database) Keep up the good work

Maybe with the readers rides it could be divided into decades? 60's, 70's etc. Also with regards to Dez's comment on age, is that not more to do with the age of the owner? I'm 26 and retro to me is Sierras, Cavaliers, Astra's etc, while people ten years older is going to be more like Cortina, chebette etc. Also, meaning no offence, not all of us can afford the 60's or 70's cars, and even then not everyone can undertake the work required to bring them back. I can't weld, I've never had a head off, so I've got a throwaway mk3 Astra, if it goes and I can't do it, nothing lost. Otherwise as a forum it is my favourite, it works, people are friendly and it's easy to use, I can't think of an improvement to be made, except with agreeing with the above, that threads in the project section get lost really easy just with forum traffic. THIS!!!!

As astranaut has outlined above...except I'm 49 and I love 60s cars can't afford them as my family commitments mean less car funds, so 90s stuff interests me more but I still attend a few shows and old "friends" which I use loosely can't accept I've moved on due to money constraints,I don't want to change a good forum But times move on, my son is fourteen and many have on here have followed and contributed to his build We must all embrace new enthusiasts and move with the times....just my opinion...love this forum Danny

From a technical point of view I started a Body & Paint thread a little while ago - forum.retro-rides.org/thread/196771/body-paint-thread?page=1 - It's a little thin on subject matter / posts currently but I am more than happy to keep plugging away at it offering guidance / posting relevant subjects as required - if you think that there is mileage in it.

I would like to divide down the Readers Rides section a bit, not because of the complaining about 'modern' cars or whatever, but because it is so so so fast moving. I put up a reply to my Datsun build just before I left the garage the other day, by the time I walked back to my house (about 10 yards or so), it was half way down the page. I made a cup of tea and sat down to edit my comment and it was near the bottom of the page. I fear things getting lost. However I'm not sure how I would divide it down yet, age doesn't feel right, type of modifications isn't right for the diverse nature I want, I've checked other forums and no one else has the answer either ... oh well something to contemplate for the next week or so. I reckon it works the best as it is. I wouldn't divide it up at all. I agree that it is quite fast moving, but thats why it works so well, whenever you look there, there is something new to look at. If you are interested in a single car, or thread you'll find it no matter how far down the page its got. If you divide it up into eras, then lots of stuff will get missed because you'll just look at the era you like, the way it is now i stumble across all manner of greatness that i'd never have looked at if it were divided into eras. Plus where would you put idiots like me who have multiple cars in a single thread?

I read RR but don't usually post- today thinking about this thread went and looked at some of the earliest threads and posts about forum members cars- interested to see and compare the car age profile on what was there then and now 15- 20 with some older years generally seemed fairly well represented in the early posts with much the same although the 15 years end less so now as they are not necessarily retro but some can be cool or interesting or both)- cars that are now interesting would be almost new then. I didn't check to how many folk around then are still active now. As has been said cars by price means less of what was retro when RR started. The aim for cars that are 'Cool or Interesting' should still stand. Unravelling some of the technical stuff is good- I have learnt from RR. Associated posts (life/trips/stuff that happens) are good too as members do some really interesting things around cars which gives a variety. Thank you for RR. Have an image- look how neat everything is and the car and van behind the trolley bus- really was another time!

This isn't about content so much as a possible re-hash of existing boards into a feature. You currently have the 'Events and Meetups' board and 'Motorsports' board. Everything's a bit haphazard as posts about events leap-frog each other. Would it be possible to calendarise events? This would give Members a month by month at-a-glance view of what's happening on a particular day in various parts of the UK with links to the individual event's websites. Perhaps event details could be imported across from www.classicshowsuk.co.ukYou might even be able to get some sponsorship from, for example, Ace Cafe, Goodwood, etc. (Perhaps sponsoring individual months?) Just an idea.

This isn't about content so much as a possible re-hash of existing boards into a feature. The events section is definitely something I want to review properly, we've had a calendar before but it didn't get used well. There is a calendar built in to Proboards and I'll have another look at it, the problem really is data and the disconnection of threads. Someone needs to fill out the data in the calendar, ideally it would give you the option to create a thread that has a corresponding calendar entry so we populate the calendar by starting threads, and the calendar item can also have a thread associated with it so people can say they are going etc. ... at the moment (or at least last time I looked at the calendar) this didn't happen. The Motorsports section will get filled out a bit more in the next couple of weeks, I just need to sit down and go through venue/organiser calendars to add more. I think it is an important section for the whole car thing in general and for us as a community, so I want it to work well
