My Firebird has roof mounted seat belts that have seen better days. Now, I know I can buy remanufactured ones from the States but the cost plus shipping would not be particularly cheap. Ive looked at roof mounted seat belts in general ( rear seats ) and it looks feasible to use the most suitable as a replacement for my Firebird ones. In saying that, is there any logical or physical reason why I couldnt use a boggo standard front seat belt, with the base mounted to the roof and the anchor mounted to the floor , basically in reverse, in the way my current belts are? I'm thinking about whether its about angles and stuff or is it? Any thoughts?

If the reel is roof mounted you will need one suitable to be mounted that way up as some lock via a weight which might not work if upside down.
OR look up Securon they make belts so might have something that works or even be able to supply the webbing to have yours rebelted

^ as above. I got a set of 4 belts to fit a small Peugoet. I couldn't swap front & rear as they were at different angles and always locked up (the internal mechanism is like a big marble in a cup, if you fit the belt at a non standard angle it thinks the car has rolled over!) Rewebbing might be an option if your mechanism is ok but the webbing is damaged. Or you need to find a car that has belts fitted at the same angle as yours. Have fun

I'm currently trying to sort out seat belts for my car. I've looked at the Securon ones, was very hopeful because a full new kit for one side, including retractor (the reel part, with the belt and clasps and stuff on I) and the bit it clips to on the tunnel is under £30 on eBay, and that's for one adjustable in both directions for mounting the reel pretty much anywhere. Trouble is, they don't do the correct fittings for my car - the mounts are on the top of the tunnel, which would leave the buckle somewhere a bit too close to kidneys (or appendix or something) in the event of it all pulling tight.
Now I'm dealing with two different refurb companies to get some ideas of cost. One was very responsive but has gone quiet this week, the other has a lovely "contact us" form on their web site but isn't responding to emails, which is a pet hate of mine. If you're too busy to reply to emails, write that on the web site, don't make me fill in a form, say "someone will be in contact as soon as possible" and then don't bother.

I had the seats in my Firenza refurbished by Quickfit around 18 years ago, and they've been fine ever since. They don't reply to emails, though, despite what the web site might say. Or they don't reply to mine, anyway.
The other company is the second one I'm waiting for a response from. In fairness, that might be because I've spoken before and I'm now exchanging emails with a specific person rather than a generic sales address, and that person might be away for the week and forgotten to put their 'out of office' on.
I know the first did a great job, and I imagine the second will too. But phone them.

I had a look on the securon website and it looks like they manufacture a belt that can be used as a roof mount jobbie. The ones Ive found are 'adjustable' which suggests that they can be fitted to ensure that they actually do what they are meant to do. The company is quite unambiguous in its desire to NOT sell directly to the public, its prices are clearly designed to discourage people from buying directly from them. I just found the type of belt that looks to be the right one then went on't flea bay where businesses are selling them at half the price the manufacturer will. It seems to me that it is unlikely you wouldnt find a seat belt that they manufacture that wouldnt fit your car. Probably.
