I keep getting tempted to redo the CF interior, completely, dash and everything. Ive been looking at dashboards from higher spec 70's british saloons. Nothing too posh, nothing too sporty. For my needs I need design inspiration that doesnt rely on a center console as I cant have one. With that in mind, what do you know? I'm liking early triumph 2000 at the moment Thought maybe we could assemble some pics of the classic british saloon cockpit, maybe I will get more ideas. Not necessarily pics of the kind of thing I'm after, more just a celebration of what makes british cars of this era a nice place to be. So, british, wood (fake or real), leather (or vinyl), whats your favourite?

What model Triumph is that interior? Looks 60's rather than 70's?

It's in the post - early Triumph 2000. My 1, 1963 to 1969 (IIRC). The binnacle always struck me as being very Thunderbirds. I preferred the interior of my Mk 1 to the Mk 2 I had. Anyhow, I'm quite fond of the Habitat like simplicity of the CF's fascia. If yours is like this one, I'd be inclined to leave the binnacle alone - I like the simplicity of it. If you wanted to have a play, maybe remove the plastic and get some hardwood veneer in there before putting the plastic back. For the horizontal bar across the front, maybe get the sewing machine out and make a quilted cover in vinyl/leather? Could do the same treatment for the panel on the engine cover? Or maybe matching wood veneer? Could you fit some instruments in there? Actually, I'd go for wood veneer on the vertical section of the bar running across the front of the dash, and above it, have a horizontal padded section immediately below the screen. A bit like a Rover P5 dash where you've go a bit of a floating binnacle thing going on. Like this - one of my favourites

But, I want to add a clock, an oil pressure gauge and a volt meter and there is nowhere to put them. I struggled to fir a radio and fag lighter. The mire things I add the more i loose the utilitarian look and it starts to look like a bodged up DIY jumble of stuff. Thats why I was considering starting again from scratch. I didnt check the dates of that triumph, o thought it may be 60's but might have snuck into early 70's. also looking at early P6, a dash shape not too disimilar from the Cf.

Xj6 I think, more usual flat wood type affair.

I assumed P5 would be a slab of wood, I was wrong. Looks nice!

P5's the way to go for my money +1 for P5 Looking at that P5 dash the separate binnacle is neat and the gauges underneath are discreet also noticed the clock on the far passenger side. Based on the CF dash included above could you gut the CF binnacle and build something similar to the P5 and add extra gauges below?

Not below I don't think, ill check room though. Cant remember where my knees end up. gutting binnacle is possible but not sure id fit more gauges than it already has. Might do, not measured. I need gauges too so could just make a complete p5 binnacle fit the CF.
Whatever I do I had sort of planned on using another complete dash for donor parts.

I assumed P5 would be a slab of wood, I was wrong. Looks nice! Designed by David Bache, he did the SD1 as well - same broad idea of a floating binnacle on the first series. Very modernist compared to the P5. The picture in my post above is a P5 Coupe - the saloon doesn't have a tacho or the underslung gauges.

I removed the pad on my dash, I liked the utilitarian look. Problem is, adding the radio and dash 12v and 5v has sort of ruined this look. Now I want to add 3 more gauges its going to start looking pap. Even if I mod the original binnacle, or fit the p5 binnacle it wont solve my radio problems (heater controlls will need moving too). Ill sort something, just looking for inspiration. I'm now feeling like i could cope with some period luxury. But, a similar binnacle, some drop down pods and maybe a bit more dash shape to the left so I can get the radio and heater controls in, bit of vinyl and fake wood and I think I can make something nice.

Hmm thinking that any classic interior would be a tad heavy on the wallet? purely based on scarcity,so thinking outside the box would it be worth looking at senator/carlton Omega interiors? plenty available so should be fairly cheap, GM which would fit in with bedford at a small stretch,if you really wanted to to could use the digi dash with oil pressure temp rev counter etc? seats come in leather or cloth depending on your preference?

Cant change seats unfortunately.
If I use any actual car parts it will only be sections, I may use a p5 binnacle but the rest id make.
I have been scetching and may make the whole thing from scratch. will be a while anyway, other things to do first.
