i wondered what welder you have? the earth clamp looks like clarke/sip style hobby welder ? if yes to that its possible to heat the 5mm plate up with a blow lamp before you make an arc, you can get some pretty decent penetration. T-butt welding two bits of 5mm you are actually welding 10mm of course (which is into industrial rig territory)
reason i mention this is i used my clarke 151 on some 6mm, it looked like a great weld but in service it actually broke off the parent metal. not a clean break at the weld but tore a bit of the parent metal way, almost like tearing a chunk out the side of a baguette. it had only penetrated part way in.

Few pictures from last weekend, nothing done this weekend as local welding suppliers don't have gas in... pushed the supra in after a fair while (forgot how heavy it was)  made a start on the tunnel not a job ive looked forward too as its cramped messy and hot work  soo comfortable   driver side mostly done need to do a small cap at rear and do bulkhead with abit of thinking  clutch pedal line inbetween my legs making it a offset position so will need abit of thinking to make it nicer to drive, might turn the seat slightly and move it over a tad which isnt too bad as the head has side rails  Ash |

Been doing a few bits and pieces, trying for a dry start tomorrow, just to make sure engine is ok before removing again post editor is playing up so pictures are abit random around £180 worth of genuine bits and pieces in this lil box,cheapest way for guaranteed quality  New timing case filler, aux tensioner bracket, not to self make the rea blanking plate before putting oil in  only 5mm thick steel i had to make up for the lift pump spacer  timing case blank  going around checking stuff like this oil feed line is blanked etc  timing case blank in, i think theres a slight bend too it as I'm sure it dripped a few blodges  only like £15 new but sod that   Costs are going through the roof now into as it sits now into the 5 figure range Ash |

Very cool project, I don't recall seeing anything quite like this before! That's a beast of a motor, seems a bit of a shame that it doesn't actually fit within the outline of the car... Still, at least it will look aggresive poking out, certainly seems to have a bit of a modern day hot rod theme, keep up the good work!

Many monies later ive got most of the interior parts, many monies next week should see the rest temporarily slapping stuff in space to see what items I'm missing and see what space i have for heater uni pedal box etc most of the switches will be removed as there just not needed  some idiot put a page in there  missing pretty much everything back  full of junk even after a clearout  almost looks like an interior, also got all the arm rest door cards and other misc items, tunnel clears the dash just about, either pot luck or I'm that good at guesstimating space... Just been pottering along, finally did a half list on the whiteboard tis a very long list rear subframe front spacer for the lift kit machined up out of house   truck propshaft ends vs a ls400 prop need to combine all of this  more welding  random pic starting to make a clutch master cylinder bracket, it is a defender TD5 unit  full droop  zafira electric powersteering pump fettling a bracket into place  as I'm using a onboard air system for clutch assisnt horns etc maybe even air ride pair of airmaxxx 580s from the states, viair rebrand these in the uk to 485C gen2s and add alot more to the price list  subframe spacer locator pin in place  all buttoned up  rear in place too, painted black with new long bolts, really should get new rear mounts  front engine mounts welded up i know i know basically chain tacking all edges grooved heavily and power slapped up    1 of the 2 battery trays that i have welded where the rear seats used to be for a pair of 019s  need to compine these too into a extended gear selector  Ash |
