We have a problem trying to strip a 1965 TH400 down, it has a 12 pointed recessed bolt thing holding in place the centre support plate. Paul has tried everything he can think of to get it out, seems to be a 3.8" is size but would need to be on a like 1/4" drive socket to get in with the clearance.
Mystery tool required...
Anyone kow what it is and where I can get it.
Improvising has failed thus far.

Why not check on eBay in the US, or perhaps some GM specific webforums. TH400 are a popular tranny so the tool, if required should be readily available over there.

Aye, I'm hopoing top buy one like today or tomoorow rather than wait 2 weeks for one to come from the US. I have put the Q on a coupe of US forums but they have a habit of calling things by different names over there which can cause some confusion when you try order the parts/tools here.

I'm sure he wont mind if you take it to him in a carrier bag to sort out once you've f*cked it up. By the way, have you got any 8 or 10 x15" wheels - Ford Mopar pattern?

You need a Triple Square socket. Snap On do them. I only see metric sizes in 3/8 drive in the latest catalogue though.

Alistair,it's a 3/8" x 3/8" drive 12 point socket that you need. You can get away with a short one but the best one is a deep socket.Snap-on or Mac tools vans are the ones to go to.Go to one of the garages in your area and ask for the guys number..... Stick the money in the post...LOL

no, they are bits not sockets. My fastener looks like that so I need the reverse of that to undo it.
