The exhaust front pipe was blowing by the silencer and Tim had supplied me with a good used one that had seen little use Old one is on the left Fortunately the four bolts that retain the exhaust to the heads were of the large brass recipe and came straight off Pea shooter silencer had come off in order to get the front pipe back on Trimmed the old bracket off that was on the underside of the tail pipe - it served no purpose and was just asking to get caught up on something Painted the stems up on the brake & clutch pedals that had been out for the carpet fitting Refitted Sealed the seams on the underside of the wings / wheel arches as required Van up in the air, wheels off and masked up ready for underbody rust proofing Main underside / drive train is sprayed with a transparent underbody wax (Dinitrol) Underside of the wings & wheel arches are coated in a heavy duty underbody wax in black (Dinitrol 4941) Locking catches fitted to the side sliding windows The mirrors were fitted to the doors in the end everywhere else restricted the drivers vision into them Original supplying dealers plaque fitted to the dashboard More tomorrow

Those mirrors are very unusual. The plaque is a nice touch too. There's so much hidden work on this van, it's just as well you've documented it here, even the undersealing. This van should outlast us all now.

i don't want this to accidentally sound like an insult (which would be purely from ignorance anyway) but the grape colours, corded carpet, brass, metal trimmings, seats (when viewed from the back), the black vinyl, i was getting a kind of WW2 era, post art deco, streamline moderne cinema vibe going on.
or basically it looks quite luxurious, for an object of utility !

Got the tyres put back onto the rims which meant that I could put the wheels back on the van move it back across the workshop Love these two photos, the finish on the paintwork of those rear doors is to die for! excellent workmanship as ever.

Wheels back on and the van back on the floor I applied the clear cavity wax to the lower bulkhead and the inner wings within the engine bay Stowed the spare wheel and also applied the clear wax to the rear of the spare wheel flap Third stage polished all external paintwork Fitted the grommet that goes between the panel work and the fuel filler neck Hubcaps fitted - on the basic van they were painted black however on the utility & deluxe models they were chrome Starting to look the part Two minor areas of paintwork required sorting - might not trouble most people but it troubles me so the van is not leaving the workshop until they are sorted - one on the offside windscreen pillar and the small panel under the rear doors These will get polished up in the morning - more tomorrow

Darren - You are on track with your thoughts - the van is pre war design and the vast majority of it's mechanical underpinning's come from the Jowett 8HP a pre war saloon car - had it not been for the war the van would have gone into production earlier - it's got a few bits on it that would have been luxury for the era it was built in but it was a competitive market and purchasers had to be attracted.

Chris
Mom say she would quite happily do a straight swap with Tim for my Corsair as she would love to have the Bradford instead?

As usual.....
Not much to add, except I am not getting on here often enough to follow your progress hour by hour and day by day, but as always both impressed and humbled by your work.
The refitted seats had me wanting to touch them.
You continue to amaze and satisfy in equal measure Chris, thank you for all the sharing and mentoring.

Rian - Not a problem - it's obviously something I very much enjoy doing - I use the thread write up in the evening has my wind down from the day along with a bottle of something chilled (not that I am that wound up in the first place) - always believed in knowledge sharing even if it just helps one RR member then it's worth it - it also in this particular case clearly demonstrated that a restoration / vehicle does not have to be something super fast or exotic or worth bundles of money come to that for others to take an interest - lots happening at my end - it never stops - don't forget it's open house here if you are ever up my way (15 mins from Reading / J11 - M4) - Chris

Chris, as this is approaching the final furlong I'm wondering if you know what's going to enter your workshop next.
I'd live to know but then I have to factor in that you might not want to say and would prefer a reveal at the start of a new thread.
But even then, I'm wondering if there might be some tantalising clues you can throw out as teasers.

Not at all - it's already here and I have made a start on it - still lots to do on it - and it's a RR members car - link below if you want to get up to speed on it - but other things are also in the pipeline although the Corsair will the main emphasis / focus of my workload over the coming months forum.retro-rides.org/thread/200957/1967-corsair-panel-paint-restoration
