I need some longer screws to hold the handles on my winder mechs. I cant work out what they are though.
My pitch gauges say they are either 1.1mm or 24tpi but my calipers measure 0.180" or 4.61mm ish across the threads.
I cant find anything that seems like this.
they are just normal looking button head machine screws about half inch long. I need some about an inch long.
Any ideas?

Arent M5 0.8 pitch though? Might possibly be able to bodge m5x1 in but it would be a bodge, might just strip out and they don't seem available anyway.

Might well be. Diameter seems a bit large, mine arent worn, but these things never measure exact do they.

Let me have a look tomorrow at work. 😊

3/16" BSW might be easier to find than unc. Pitch and diameter the same , just threadform is 55 degree as opposed to unc's 60 degree.

Get something that's about the same, and if it don't fit, turn harder. Or... Drill out the threads in there and re-tap to something more sensible?

I did think about drilling and tapping though, but the longer screw needs to fit through a spindle adapter I'm making. If I make the center hole any bigger it will weaken the adapter too much.

Could be a 2BA screw - although 3/16 unf unc would be more like.

Dimensions seem ok but 2ba pitch is 0.81 apparantly. (According to wikipedia)

Because there is no finer feeling than being on holiday in the middle of a field, in driving rain and gale force winds, and realising you cant shut the window because that winder mech you bodged has just let go.

Handy chart. None match exact but 3/16 bsw seems to be closest.
I have redesigned my adapter for the window regulator so I may be able to use the original screws now.
