Nigel, you've just made me feel very stupid as that's another Terry Pratchett joke I didn't get until now. Glad it wasn't just me. Reengined autoscythe looks suitably terrifying, and therefore exactly the sort of machine we'd expect to see in a Frankenhealey thread. I wanted an Allen Scythe for dealing with the back jungle but the domestic authorities vetoed it; you accidentally ride one motorcycle through your neighbour's fence and you find all self propelled machinery banned from the garden, hey ho. She might have had a point.

One of the biggest drawbacks of the Volcano Lair is it's only easy access is down Cowshit Lane. The lane has huge ruts from the big tractors and while the cowshit is bad enough I can't get the Lenham down there and the Healey only just There is another possible access but that would mean fighting the zombie coven that comprises of the residents association. Not an easy task with the great and the good of the village so it's on the backburner because we had a little luck. We were due to have the Tour of Britain through the village and our poor roads were not up to scratch so the organisers were willing to stump up the funds for a new road surface. Where were the machines going to be stored safely overnight? After intense and lubricated discussion with the roadcrew down the pub, the farmyard up the lane was a really secure choice and if they perchance had a couple of cubic metres left over every night their access could be literally smoothed by laying it down the lane which by sheer coincidence had been graded a few days earlier. Result!

Having a bit of a clear out down the Lair and some may remember the original Hobrecht roll bar on what was then named 'Uncobra'. I've tried giving it away across two continents but with no luck. Being an American version of a Paddy Hopkirk accessory it was extremely 'chocolate fireguardey' on the safety front. With no crossbracing and only bolted to the thin Healey tub it was more show than go and deffo not MSA spec of any era. So with no takers I had to strip the roll bar padding off to take it to the tip. When it was stripped I found the original manufacturers label. I'm a bit nonplussed and can't find out much about the brand.

I think I'm more nonplussed by someone, even in the 60's, that thought it was a good idea to have a logo incorporating a cartoon character wearing an SS Stahlhelm

PS did you use 'humor' because it's American? My pedant gene spotted it right away.

So you’re back from your short holiday and you’re luxuriating in your own bed with a good book, hot buttered toast and coffee when Bob the Dog puts his head on the bed and gives his best ‘poo’ face. Can’t be possible as he’s just been and his ‘poo’ face is notoriously similar to his ‘need a pee’, ‘bored’ or ‘feed me’ face. Usually you wait it out as it’s almost always bored or biskut. Two minutes later the interpretive dance starts. Now it’s serious! This can only mean there’s squirrels in the garden or the lonely pigeon is giving him a 'look' through the patio door or he’s desperate. Get up (sigh) run to the back door, nothing. Go back to cold toast, warm coffee and then Bob the Dog puts his head on the bed trying to communicate ‘something’ ☹️ Repeat until the sun goes dark. A Bob the Dog 'Look' Primer

Many years ago I was on some work camp or another, sleeping on the floor of some school room or another. At some point in the dead of night I suddenly went from being fast asleep to completely awake with a dog's face about an inch from mine. I think I came close to having a coronary. The dog belonged to one of the other people on the work party. It had a look just like one of Bob's in the photos above so I had no idea what it wanted. Or, for that matter, why it decided to wake me up. I rolled over and went back to sleep.
If the poor animal was showing me its "I want a poo" face somebody else must have taken it out. Only one poo was found in the room the following morning and that's the one I did when the bloody thing frightened the life out of me.

Did some work stripping down the Mayfield for the re-engine project. Lots of chains but weedy clutch That's the asthmatic Villiers off and another chain. The Chinese Honda copy is too narrow for the frame rails so an adapter plate is needed But how does a klutz like me get the hole pitches right without measuring a 1000+ times and then getting it wrong? Then I remembered a YouTube video of some chaps on the sub-continent making a replacement digger bucket using nothing but there innate skills and paper patterns. So, duct tape a piece of cardboard to the alu plate, line up by eye and tap each corner and take to the drill press. Perfecto (so perfecto I had to have a sit down) Needed a cutout for primary chain clearance so tried a quickie on the big bandsaw at work, Couldn't get a straight cut only to be told it always did that They wouldn't let me freestyle on the new Waterjet as (a) I wasn't trained and (b) I wasn't trained. Barstewards, it was my vote that got them the Waterjet and not the Laser Sintering Machine so back to a humdrum mill to correct it. Looking good but now waiting for the replacement chain drive sprocket and the double A section vee pulley that drives the finger bar It was peeing down earlier so it was a workshop day. Had a big clearout of rubbish that has collected over the summer because of other things to do. Sadly it was time to move poor Rex on. Down at the dump there was some frenzied haggling and they got themselves a new cycling mascot. He's already got the sprint style down pat And I got myself a new car. Now do I start a new project for the grandkids or do I just strap it to the roof of the Healey to look cool and get down wiv da kidz?

Having driven down cowshit lane today, I can confirm the the lubricated discussions resulted in a lovely pathway. I am also able to confirm the man and Mrs F as lovely and generous hosts, with a lovely dog. Thanks or the company and generous unloading of stuff from the Volcano lair. Trucks asss hanging somewhat. Return trip was slow due to inclement weather.

Storm Cillian did a real number on our forty plus year old wood and sheep shed. Built with loving care by old-timey Purbeck folk in the traditional manner out of wood offcuts, reclaimed corrugated iron, lids of old tea chests, tar and baler twine. It survived Eunice last year but the less powerful Cillian was in just the wrong direction. The tipped section nearly ended up in the road. You could see the affected neighbours wanting to ask me about when I'd do something about it but I've been a bit short with them due to an ongoing situation with some new people in the road. No doubt I will relate the story once it's played out fully but you can get a feel for the problem with this meme. Anyhoo their dreams came true this weekend as I wielded crowbars, levers and angle grinders to make the world a slightly safer place for the local inhabitants. The sheep shelter that #1 son and I built out of pallets and more reclaimed corrugated in the local style was untouched but we know it's tough as it's already had a full grown goat willow drop on it and shrugged that off. Got a few hours to knock up a pallet derived log store for Pitstop. Now the kids are getting woodburners guess who is supplying the fuel - sigh Finally got to have a small sit down with SWMBO and a glass of Rioja Rosado in front of the first trash fire since the spring. With the sun dropping behind the little wood the warmth was most welcome.
