good... my full-blend supercharger, it's like dropping down a gear at 4000rpm, the seats might take a hammering with my fat ass being pushed into them all the time though sebring full stainless system with VAG decat pipe. yes it makes cruising an ear-bleeding affair but it sounds so nice and did add a fair bit of power. debadging. the look on a BMW 525 drivers face when the 'chavved-up polo CL' in front of him buggers off into the distance. bad... GSF 'performance' brake discs which might as well come from the factory pre-warped.

I've always been a bit wary of uprated brake pads - the chav lads seem to fit race-spec pads on their chaviots , but unless you are actually racing (i.e.: using them a lot with aggression on a circuit) they never get up to temperature and feel wibblepoo. Good road-spec brake set-ups work well though. On one car I had, I used some of that heat-proof exhaust paint to neaten things up. It caught fire.

Good - The RS turbo spec Recaro buckets I have in the Imp. Not full FIA approved carbon fibre buckets I know, but they're comfy enough for long journeys, they keep you in place so much better than the flat vinyl covered Imp spec seats, and in Glasgow, all that happens if you park a car with really flash seats in it and leave it is your windows get broken, some neds climb in your car, yank them out, probably damaging them, the bolts holding them in, and the floor of the car in the process if they don't happen to have the right size sockets etc on them, and they're for sale in a pub in the East end of Glasgow before you're back at your car and realise what's going on! ;D ;D ;D ;D Good - 4 TRS harnesses, also on my Imp, cheap(ish), look great and will match the car when its painted red, and really really supportive, I've tried them slowing down from pretty high speeds, and when they're done up tightly you don't get thrown around at all and your whole body is safely stationary far better than was ever the case with the little lapbelts the Imp had before!

here are a few of my preferances/opinions on what does/doesn't work when modifying. Good.... Braided brake hoses, silicone brake fluid and proper uprated road pads work really well together, pedal feel is so much better when you get rid of all the rubber hoses. Bad.... Race spec brake pads, best kept for the track! Good.... Period alloys (minilights, fuchs, euro style splitrims etc) enhancing the style of the car. Bad..... weller eight spokes sorry rev9 but these only look good on autocross/bangers IMO. Good.....modern big size alloys 17"+ (well chosen with thought gone into choice) . Bad....modern big size alloys 17"+ (Chav style alloys on a retro ride ) curse word poor ride comfort! Good.... well built exhaust manifold and tastefull system. Bad..... the exhaust on my celica ;D, standard manifold (cracked), scaffold tube for a centre box and badly fitting rear box. (does sound good through dartford tunnel though!) Good... suportive recliners or bucket seats with head restraints. Bad.... retro buckets/standard seats without head restraints, may look cooler but not worth getting whiplash for! Good.... well built roll cage and body strengthing, will help you out when it all gos wrong. Bad.... chrome "show" roll cages!! they just "show" you don't know what youre doing ;D ;D Good.... proven tuning products for your car/engine. Bad.... incorrect bits.. eg cone filters on R5 gt turbos will mostly loose BHP as the temp in the engine bay is too hot, and to air dump valves on an engine that should have a recirculation type valve will mostly loose throttle responce.

Good - Debadge, especially if modded motor. Good - whack a lump out of those springs, gaps are for Watford. Good - keep it washed! Always an easy mod!! Good - Unessessary trim (loads on Volvo) and fill those holes! (soon!!)
Bad - Max power sticker Bad - Overlarge exhaust pipe secured with jubilee clip on standard system. Bad - Blue light things Bad - Vectras

one of the most crucial mods to a car is its stance. Getting the right wheel/tyre combo and having it sit 'right' with the wings/arches. Its a finely balanced thing, could be a good mod or could be a bad mod.
Narrowed beams on beetles are the law! And wide arch's on 10 inch mini rims work superbly too. Both with that 'tasteful' amount of lowering.
pair of 40 or 45 Webbers/Dells too. And then theres turbos. Hmmmm turbos. ;D
removal of bumper is, 95% of the time, a good mod.
And vents are, 95% of the time, a bad mod.

GOOD - Nice looking set of wheels [esp period] & a good drop in the ride height. As said above, this can make the car look right. Get it spot on & you are laughing ;D. De-bumpering, de-badging, other stuff like electric cooling fan conversion, contactless ignition, halogen headlights, etc
BAD - Not over-keen on modern stuff on Retros but sometimes can look OK, neon & ''Barry'' curse word, & other stuff but can't think at moment as leaving for a beer or 2 ;D

Good mod: Getting the parts to work together well. The twin webers and rally spec head on the ZS should have been great but just drank fuel...until I added the 4into1 group b manifold and system and suddenly all this extra power arrived from nowhere. Looking at the completely kak standard manifold and teeny tiny pipe I can see why.
