Recently got the panda back out of storage with the hope I could use it over Winter, but it quickly became apparent that she just wouldn't last another load of road salt, when the rear bumper fell off, along with the fuel tank straps. So with that I bought this... Its a 1998 Vauxhall Corsa Breeze, with the 1.0 3-Cylinder Suzuki engine (chain driven). Its done 167000 miles but seems to go quite well. The idea was to use it over Winter, and sell in March, but the thing has been very well cared for, with a decent service history, and just had a full service, so the plan may change into - run it until something major breaks, then get rid.

With a decent service history chances are nothing major will break. It's usually tinworm that kills them.
The bits that usually go are cheap and easy to fix, crank sensor and oil pressure switch for example. If the oil switch leaks change it asap or the oil will get into the Lambda wiring.

My daughter had the C model with that engine. It went well but they are a curse word for HG failure, front crank oil seal leaks and oil pressure switches. If that is the original engine at that mileage it has done very well indeed.

Why does everyone assume that it's a Suzuki engine? It's Opel developed. Anyway, impressive mileage given their appetite to self destruct. Fair play!

check the plastic fitting for the degas hose, they break, out goes the coolant bang goes the head gasket, later ones seem to have it replaced with a brass fitting.

Luckily any chance of tinworm has been addressed, as the car had a load of decent quality welding back in June, and that cost more than I paid for the car. Looks like its the original engine, as nothing in the history to say its had a different one. Rich, I got the info about it being a Suzuki engine from the Corsa facebook page, so thought the "guys in the know" would actually - know! Will have to go over the things mentioned, as as sound cheap enough to change

Nice little run around, I recently inherited a low mileage untouched 1400 Sport that I am fixing for my other half to use for a few months. They make a great little daily.

I like a nice Corsa B too. I was driven around today in a '93 4-door auto Grandad Corsa. And yes, they decay rather well having just hung up the welding torch on its cousin the Tigra.

Wound up with one of these as a hire car when I had to return to the UK for a funeral a few years ago. Picked it up at Manchester Airport, ran it for two days around Stockport and dropped it off, still with the fuel gauge reading full!
Never realised it was a three pot.

What's the plan then, mate? Run around in this for a few weeks, whilst you get the couple of Panda issues sorted?

The panda's going to be more than a few weeks, as the thing is rusty underneath. I found this out when I tried jacking the car up to sort a tyre, and the jack went up, but the car didn't So the Panda is back in storage over Winter, then next Spring I can get it into a temporary bay at the Restoration Club.
