As above, regardless of whether it is registered if you change anything that does not comply with the 8 points you should reregister. And by modifying the chassis that would then require IVA
Anyway, great build, carry on and there is a whole other section for this (‘The Legal Bit’)

While you are on the subject and I'm not sure it is relevant to this project as I don't know how the mr2 is constructed. Does changing the body panels not count as modifying the Monocoque? If your removing panels and replacing with fibreglass? By the way I love what your doing and think it's excellent! Sorry if this adds more fuel to the fire just would like to know for future potential projects!!! Cheers

I'm sorry but you are applying legislation for registering a vehicle, to a vehicle that is already registered. The clue is in the title of the legislation you are citing in that it is 'registering a vehicle'. If the vehicle is already registered and you are in possession of a v5 then notifiable changes are listed there. Dvla will tell you anything but they are bound by legislation and to apply the wrong legislation is simply naughty. Admittedly it's a myriad of conflicting info though & you have to be confident enough to read this legislation & not rely on others which is where you maybe have failed. Don't take this as a criticism, everyone has their strengths. You are wrong I saying "you are applying legislation for registering a vehicle, to a vehicle that is already registered" what badrep will be doing is re registering a vehicle as a Replica RS200 not as an MR2 if you read the thread title that explains what is being achieved. To be fair, I actually think that ftz313 was referring to the Metro rather than the RS200, however you are right - I am reregistering the car as a "kit converted vehicle" - this will rename the make and model - this way I can keep my registration because the chassis/monocque is not modified: Source: www.gov.uk/vehicle-registration/kitconverted-vehicles------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ftz313I agree - you can change what you want on the V5c in section 7, however this does not cover any chassis modification, only the basics: They then have the right to inspect any work: Source: www.gov.uk/change-vehicle-details-registration-certificate/how-to-tell-dvlaIf they deem the vehicle as a radically altered vehicle then it will require an IVA even if it has been registered before. I see your point about how this may apply to unregistered vehicles and not cars that are already registered but can't see why they would keep referring to you keeping the original registration if this was the case: Source: www.gov.uk/vehicle-registration/radically-altered-vehiclesI'm sure that many people have performed engine changes with chassis modification without declaring them and have run them for a long time with no problem, but it's my interpretation of this that makes me think that their cars might not be road legal. For these reasons I'm going to play by the rules and not risk anything. My fear is having an accident and not being covered. I don't really want to turn this into a thread about the legislation if possible so would be happy to agree to disagree on the matter, I just wanted to show where and why I believe what I believe.

In some vehicles the panels are (normally the roof). I actually don't have anything to back me up on this one though!

I'm sorry but when responding to a post can you do so in a polite manner irrespective of your view. Ps it's not 'rules' it's legislation. 1. you were the person calling people "quite sad" for "misleading citing of legislation". I said you are wrong (which you still are) and you should inform yourself better before casting judgment. I wrote my reply with an intentionally similar level of politeness to yours. 2. Some dictionary definitions: Legislation = laws (considered collectively) = "system of rules". QED 3. Your confusion arises from rigidly sticking to "registering a vehicle", the same rules/legislation/law applies to anything concerning a vehicle's registration. The wording of the law clearly states: "You won't be able to keep the original registration if it has an altered monocoque, chassis or frame". How can that possibly apply to new registration when it explicitly refers to the original registration? It's literally black and white, there is no grey area. Badrep checked and double checked with the people that enforce the law (the DVLA) As stated previously, there is a large sub-section of retro rides dedicated to the legal side of things, I suggest you go and read up on the vehicle identification side of things. Apologies for further derailment of the thread, hopefully the mountain of evidence will be enough to dead end this distraction...

Can we stop mithering badrep with all this legislation curse word? As far as i can see he’s doing his bit to stay within the law, so can we leave it at that and let him give us more awesome updates? Can’t wait to see this thing with a body!

Can’t wait to see this thing with a body! Hear hear. I was just about to post something similar. This thread is quite clearly about an awesome build and not a forum for "stirring the pot" or general arguing. Let us all get back to the point on this one. Looking forward to seeing the progress on the build. It's gonna look fantastic

Yes of course. There's a group of Rr's that are ruining this forum misquoting legislation & when I see it I'll make a point of commenting that it is registering a vehicle legislation being applied to an already registered vehicle & explain about notifiable changes.
However I'll also agree to draw a line having made the point.

Yawn!! It's getting boring now fella. Really if you want to carry on with this debate might I suggest that you start your own thread perhaps in the legal section. That way badrep can get back to telling us about his epic build without it being diluted down with this hogwash!

Yes of course. There's a group of Rr's that are ruining this forum misquoting legislation. I think you’ve made your point, rightly or wrongly (wrongly, as it happens), and it is apparent that it has become unwelcome on this thread, so please stop now. As has been mentioned, there are other places for having this sort of discussion, so please do it there.

I've asked for the '(wrongly, as it happens)' to be removed by the moderator. Erm... he is one of the moderators. So there's that. Also we didn't see a report, did the button not work? I'm sure badrep is doing everything as correctly as possible, he is not a man to scrimp on things. I'm guessing Darkspeed and kapri may know the ins and outs more thoroughly than most and be able to advise if anything is mistaken here.

I remember niow why I have stopped being involved answering peoples questions. Even with 45 years experience in motoring legislation people still want to argue the toss or twist rules to suit their situation. Those that don't want to understand never will and will keep asking around until they get the answer they actually WANT to hear and take that as gospel

Nowadays IF peopel want FACTUAL answer sto question sthey need to contact me directly ( rather than in a thread ), make a donation to my local hospice and I'll then give them facts . I've found that when answers cost money people are more receptive.
Helped a guy with a couple of VAG conversions CAUGHT by DVLA retrospectively and he promised £100 for a positive outcome , good to MY word that's what he got and good to HIS word that's what the hospice received.
