I think that would be a "commission" rather than what grenade is producing here currently - which he mentioned in his last post (or rather that's how I understood it)?
Classic looks (from the outside), yet modern cockpit does have a place in the market; it's pretty close to the holy grail of a "real" modern retro. The experience without the inconvenience? He's done his research into what works, what doesn't, and what price point makes it a "goer". It's easy to sink 20-30k into a project but it depends on what you want from it. If it's for your own delight, then financials may take a back seat but if your idea is (as I think grenade eluded to some time back - I think mentioned in the Maserati V8 project) was his aim was to finance the next project from the current one and make a couple of beers in the process.
Don't get me wrong, strikey - my Scimitar looks (virtually) standard inside although wears an engine 20 years newer under the bonnet, which is how I want to try and keep it. Others have gone with the same engine transplant and carried over more of the donor (down to instruments, switchgear and wiring looms) which is personal choice at the end of the day. I'm happy with the way mine is going, as are the others with theirs.
If we all liked the same thing, the world would be a very boring place and this forum wouldn't exist in the first place..and that would be a very sad thing indeed.

I'm 100% signed up for different but modern interiors are just so.....erm...bland! my suggestion was just what I would do with it.

Hi grenade, Thanks for a little more insight into the hows and why's regarding the dash. I'm not 100% sure I'd agree on it all, but I've never involved myself with anything Chrysler so who am I to say what can or cannot be done... I do really get what you are saying and for what they are I enjoy your efforts and end results! I am however 100% sure that in capabilities, you'd be able to build one to the standards that have passed in the past few responses!! I guess those monkeys and hot headed ex monkeys on TV prove that even those expensive vehicles sell, but it's understood that that would require a much bigger initial investment in the project from yourself. And if I were you I'd, for now, stick to what is proven to work. Having three vehicles pre-sold is a huge compliment to what you are doing.

If it was me, I'd go as retro as I could with it but these pesky manufacturers like to make life tricky for us who like to fiddle..that's why I've got the original immobiliser and key stuffed up behind the back of the dash..

They encrypt the ECu and will not share with the aftermarket. So how do the rolling road guys tune them if the maps are encrypted??!? Or is it only part of the ECU that is encrypted?? If you follow RoadKill and ArseMonkey when they put the Hellcat engines into the General Mayhem and the other one they had to use the complete Hellcat loom, lights etc to make it work. Roadkill used the whole thing but Gas Monkey only used the ECU and body control module. - which says to me it's an immobiliser thing. On the Bosch ME7.X the immob can be removed and the engine will start without the matching clocks and keys coded to the ECU required from the factory.

On the Bosch ME7.X the immob can be removed and the engine will start without the matching clocks and keys coded to the ECU required from the factory. Good point and TBH I don't know. There were very few engine swaps using modern Chrysler Hemi's etc as the people that do the tunes found it very hard to crack the ECU- There will always be somebody that does it but it was not main stream. Their stance does seem to have changed with the launch of a crate motor Hemi. Ford and GM work very closely with the aftermarket - maybe they have realised their mistake and are embracing Hot Roders once again. From memory, and a lot of stuff that wasn't shown on the show, The Gas Monkey guys couldn't get the engine to run and ended up having to fool the ECU into thinking it was still in a Hellfire. There is quite a length thread somewhere on the interwebs that shows what they had to do to get it to run Edit. Here is an excerpt from the article on Hot Rods site. The one I was looking for seems to have disappeared (maybe because it wasnt very complimentary to a certain garage in Texas...) The problem is that the stock CAN bus system uses 52 modules that connect to things like the trans, fuel tank, gauge cluster, shifter, and taillights,” Jonathan explains. “Unless the computer sees all those modules, the PCM locks up and the motor won’t run. That’s why the Roadkill guys transferred all that stuff onto their car. For the PCM to get a signal from the key, we had to use the factory body control module, key, and start button. We then found out that the computer has a rolling encryption system that’s constantly writing new code to lock it out from tuners. The guys at Diablosport flew in to town at the last minute to save the day. Those guys are wizards. They took the computer apart, unlocked it, disabled the modules, and starting writing new code. Afterward, the motor finally fired up.”
What the Discovery Channel neglected to include in postproduction was the super-human effort put out by the Diablosport crew to meet the Roadkill Nights drag race deadline. Seizing upon the chance to prove to the world on a very public stage that they are the undisputed leaders in the late-model Hemi tuning world, they dropped everything to make it happen, something that was never really given its due by the network’s antic-loving producers in the video editing suite.
So it seems as if the rolling encryption is the challenge then. Anyway, all very interesting but the issue is that is could be done but not on a mortals budget. Blame Chrysler. And that is probably why everyman and his Nan has an LS. Including me. P.

The guys with the Dyno/rolling road have said they use the Diablosport tuner to communicate with the ECU so that will allow access to it. Now- what that means exactly, I'll have to find out. I'm going to print that last comment and take it with me when I take the truck in for the tune. I do have a diablosport tuner on hand and I will plug it in once the cam is installed. Then I will see if it will run and drive well enough, to actually drive it into their shop.
Gas Monkey and Roadkill used a different engine that what I use. I use the early 04 05 06 5.7 non MDS motors. There's no immob on these things, it's only that the cluster matches the ECU. I've swapped them around and nothing will run without it's mate. That's as far as I went with it.
The TV guys use the 6.1L I think or at least much newer engines, because they make more power.

Yesterday I had the wheels and tyres mounted. Oops, my spell checker says TIRES. I tacked the bed into permanent location and then today, it warmed up and melted the snow. I took the truck outside and hung the body panels in a "mock up" to see what it was going to look like. Nothing is connected, it's all just hanging there. Cutting the fenders on this one will be interesting, doesn't need much because these wheels have more offset but a smaller diameter. I use the bigger wheels on the other trucks, so that I can "center" the wheel in the opening. On this size, that'll be a bit tougher. Still- this is taking shape;

Looks Awesome Paul! The patina kind looks like camo too, makes it look mean!
Love the wheels in satin black too.
I don't understand the negative comments in the posts above, it's like have they got nothing better to do, f*ck off, jeez...

Everyone loves these trucks.
I guess it's because we like the old stuff and then you know you can nail it like a modern, because it is a modern.
Best part is that your buyers are getting something totally unique.
As Paul days, carry on Paul.
