As far as I was concerned, we live in a perfectly adequate house but my good lady wife had other ideas. To cut a long story short, we are moving to a new place. It will be a project and needs a bit of work. ...and the garden is a decent size... Which can mean only one thing to us petrolheads, a ride on mower! Now, since the house purchase, we are quite skint so a nice shiny new one is out of the question. And old things are cooler, right? This one came up cheap locally on eBay as a non runner. I took a punt and roped in my Dad to help collect it. Early inspection showed no battery but it did have a spark when the cord was pulled. I tried squirting a bit of carb cleaner down the inlet and it gave an encouraging cough. I cleaned out the carburetor and jets, re-assembled and it fired straight up!

Hello there, my name is wayne elsom. I was the owner of the vw split screen GWM 290E in the early 90’s. Unfortunately it caught fire on the way back from Glastonbury in 93 or 94 and the recovery people took it somewhere and I never had the money to get it back. Someone offered me 500 for it and I sold it. Something I regret to this day. Can I please ask you if you would be so kind to send me some photos of her now, she looks like she had the care and attention she deserved. Thanks in advance if you could do this. My email is elsomwayne@hotmail.com.
Have. A great day
Way. E

Hello Wayne, it was really good to hear from you the other day. Always fascinating to find out about the history of these old vehicles.
