As for those front wheels. They look similar to what my old dad has got on his 70s Raleigh shopping bike. Are they up to the job? Or just to make it look even madder? They're off a Raleigh Wisp moped. They were pretty commonly used on dragsters. There is less weight directly on them than there is with somebody sat on the moped.

They seem sturdy enough. Actually looks like my dad's Raleigh Twenty(?) bike just with a motor strapped on.
It shows my ignorance of 70s dragsters. The sum of my knowledge is taken from watching Wacky Races as a kid!

This is the only aviation related advert I can find for them. Godfrey Marshall cabin blowers were fitted to the Conway engines of the VC-10 but I don't remember which type of blower. I believe they all look pretty similar, just varying in size. I'll see if I can dig out my old course notes, there may be some details about them in there that may be of use to you.

I had a Godfrey blower, again it was for cabin air, but was centrifugal, not dissimilar to a paxton supercharger

What an amazing find, it couldnt have gone to a better home after reading through this thread. That engine is amazing, absolutely love the thinking and the engineering quality. With the parts in such good condition whoever put it into storage must have wanted it up and running again. Fully restored with new paint as per its last outing and that engine running again would really be something special but if you rebuild this car then I think you have every right to add or improve something if you find the right parts or get the right ideas, as said earlier it is a race car and they are always evolving. Best of luck, looking forward to watching your progress.

The plan is to spend some money on the engine to bring it upto date with the extra 40 years of development that they've had to try and keep it reliable. I'm going to try my hardest to get the blower and FI working. When it does (or if it doesn't) I'll build a turbo/EFI setup too. In other news - I've been in contact with Mike Sayers the original builder of the car.

He emailed me - basically I wasn't sure if he was still alive as I found out that the Pickering Experimental Engineering & Model society had a "Mike Sayers Memorial" award for Engineering Excellence. I fired them an email asking if it was the same guy and next thing I know the man himself is emailing me. Yes he seems pleased it's been found. The car was the 5th and final dragster he built. However he sold it when the sport changed to bracket classes (rather than engine capacity based) and he went racing elsewhere.

Awesome! Kind of adds a whole new dimension to the build.
It's got me thinking about paying the DVLA for the history on my two Scimitars.

Not done anything apart from take the tyres off. Had a list of issues with the Delica to sort and I need to extend the garage so I've got enough space to get round it.

You know you've acquired a project worth the name when the first job on the list is to extend the garage! Cheers Matt

That's the trouble with garages these days, just not designed for dragsters.

I could squeeze it in the garage as it is but it'd be tight length ways. There's a extra 7 feet of base behind it that's got a shed on at the moment but gonna extend the garage onto it and move the shed. The layout of the garage needs changing anyway. At the moment the workbench and cupboards at at the end whereas I'm going to put a full length bench down one side, then sheet the end off and have a small bench and hanging space for painting. The dragster will then go in one side with about 3 feet all the way round which is plenty.

Just being able to say "I'm extending my garage to fit my classic dragster" is a complete 'pack up your toys boys, the alpha male has arrived' Top Trump. (and not in a dog turd coiffured American politician Trump sort of way)

A small update. Sent some bits away for cleaning and they've done an amazing job. All were ultrasonically cleaned then wet blasted. Dropped the block off to be done when I picked this lot up then once that's back I can get everything measured up and start building the engine. The blasting was done by this company www.aquablastingyorkshire.co.uk/ from Manvers, Rotherham and the price was so good i'll be sending them anything that needs doing as my time is better spent doing other things than fannying around with wire brushes. Head before Head after Axle/Gearbox carriers and hubs before Axle/Gearbox carriers and hubs after Sump Before Sump After Pedals before Pedals After Wheels Before Wheels After I don't think i'm going to use the wheels. They're a bit too pitted for my liking. Gonna paint them up and stick the old tyres back on them and make a coffee table.
