We went to pick the Renault 5 up last Sunday, but only just got around to posting up the photo's due to a very busy week. On driving the car back, I decided on the name 'Renee' pronounced the same as Rennie. (Thank you everyone for your suggestions) The name means 'to be reborn' Which I think is very fitting considering the plans for him. Plus its a french name, and I think it has a nice ring too it! Ste ( steveandhis244 ) drove it back for me. With the help of John ( johnrh ) and Ryan. 250 miles and not a single hiccup! When we got back that night we put it straight into the garage and did a small machine polish on it to see how well it would come up. Including taking a section of the stickers off to see if there was a big difference underneath. The following day I removed all the stickers when I got home from work and then when Ste got home, we finished polishing up the whole of the drivers side of the car. It's already looking better, however when we took the car into day light you can still see where the stickers have been so Ste has said he'll give it a respray on his week off next week!
I need to buy a new headlight, and new tyres as soon as possible. I'm leaving these wheels on over winter, but will look into getting something similar to Ronal Turbo's for next spring. Also by the end of the month when I get my wage I should be able to get the learner driver insurance on it so I can drive it about myself! Only other issues are the wheels need re aligning and the biting point is touching the roof haha, but other than that its a really cute clean car. Big thanks to steveandhis244 and johnrh for all their help! I'm looking forward to getting out and about in him myself.

I thought I recognised the person driving the car from the Volvo forum ! One of my previous toys was a red Campus. I've put pictures on here before somewhere. I fitted an extra van rear beam and made it rather low. I've got a proper workshop manual for them on disc. I will try and sort out a copy. A renault thread with a picture of my car towards the bottom. retrorides.proboards.com/thread/151681/1989-renult-5-gt-turbo

Sure the visible marks from the stickers would buff out - better than a respray.

Been making some more progress with Renee. Mainly body work, carrying on with the paint restoration to try get him back to his former shiny red self. Ste had previously tried to buff the car but found that it was juat shining up the "dead" orangey paint, rather than cutting through it properly to the colour it was supposed to be. We decided to just wet flat the whole car to remove the dead paint then buff back up. The whole process took one whole weekend. 1200 grit wet flatted first, then trizact 3000 discs and then G3 followed by super resin polish. You can see the dead orangey paint coming off to reveal the red underneath: Starting to look the part now I decided I wanted to add a sporty red stripe to the recess in the bumpers and side cladding Ste repainted the sun faded scratched parcel shelf as that was the worst of the interior plastics, but it seems to have come out well so the plan is to strip out the door cards etc and do those at a later stage. I'm also thinking of putting in a turbo style red carpet so we might do that all as one job on the interior. Ste found some rust in the battery tray which needed sorting before it started weakening the pedal box mountings, so it was all properly cut out and a new piece of metal let in (I swear he takes more pride in this car than his own ) Unfortunately no pic of the finished item as it came dark but you can see where its been cut out Refurbished the badge (all the silver had worn off) Replaced the rusty headlight And last but not least, degreased, cleaned, and WD40d the engine bay Plans over the next month or so are 4 new tyres, and an alignment, a new radio and I might get a different colour matched grille with the offset renault badge

that's going to be a great example of a proper little motor car. have had 2 mk2's and would have a third at the drop of hat....especially that one!

Nice, I've a R5 too, although I swapped the grilles the other way round from a newer red one to the older grey one! I'll have to get some pictures up.
Oh and a quick question, what wheels are they? Looking for some new ones to replace my steelies.

Looking for some new ones to replace my steelies. They're R5 Monaco (luxury R5 with leather seats etc) wheels, only available on that model iirc. They do pop up on ebay sometimes

But i'm wanting something new for summer and keeping these as winter wheels.
