Well the capri is deffo out of the equation to take up to the RR07. This just leaves the 'trusty' steed - the viva. Which seems to not like the idea of going up to leicester, as it has thrown a major hissy fit and decided to mayo up all the oil ![:'(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/cry.png) Thing is it's not misfiring, it's not losing performance (didn't have much to lose). I'm gonna do a pressure test tomorrow, but what would you lot do? Say sod it, chance the viva and see how far you get before the RAC card comes out or just go in the modern and deffo get there and back but be boring.

Is it just mayo or is it over heating as well? If its just mayo I would risk it, just keep and eye on the oil and water levels and temp gauge.
When you say "the modern" do you mean the Saab or the Focus in your sig?

are these block ally or cast?
If its cast just change the gasket for the hell of it, it cant be a long job and you could make a temp gasket out of cardboard.
I would run it up here anyway, plenty of telented guys at the show to help too LOL.

By modern i mean the focus. Should probably get a temp guage in in the first place (long story).
p.s. it's very deffo a cast block. What pisses me off is that i fitted a new gasket a brand new head and torqued it up not even a week ago.

Check the torque again mate.

Yup. Check the torque again and take it for a reasonably long run. Little bursts of activity could make it mayo up.

I'll bring some prawns, along with BGT's tuna steak action mayo will be in high demand... Then we all owe you one and can help fix anything that needs doing.
Not much help I know, but being in a similar car not at RR situation, just get yourself there - that's all that really matters.

The guy who I brought my old Golf off had, had the head skimmed and gaskets replaced and it was still full of mayo. I brought it and drove it for about 10 miles and it had all dissapered and never came back. Since the work had been done he hadn't taken it on the road because of a lack of tax. Even though he was running it on a regular basis, it wasn't shifting the mayo. I say go for it matey... theres enough help if anything happens ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

Heh, took it for a good 20min drive pretty much all at 60 and even though the block is now covered in oil it's black oil. Will tighten up the head bolts tomorrow morning and hope for the best. It's just got to get me there. The rac will gimme a lift back.

mayo can just be condensation and with the rain and humidiy we've been havinng I bet most cars have it. Long runs or running the engine quite hot will clear it, but it will come back again with damp weather or short runs.
Mayo is no sign of anything really unless theres so much its about pushing the filler cap off.

Escort does that all the time, plus belches fumes out of the filler cap. I just ignore it and keep shovelling the cheap sumpo in......6000 miles later it's still doing it. ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png)
